Kings XI Punjab scored a big 32-run victory over Royal Challenge Bangalore to strenghten their position on the top of the table in the Indian Premier League 7 in Bangalore on Friday.

Chasing a huge target of 199 to win, Bangalore were in trouble losing Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli early on.

As the required run rate kept rising, the pressure took on the other batsmen as they fell cheaply attempting big shots.

Only AB de Villiers provided some brief hope scoring a gritty 53 from 26 balls while Mitchell Starc scored a 29 from 23 balls as Bangalore folded up for 166 for nine in 20 overs.

Sandeep Sharma was the most successful bowler claiming three wickets while Laxmipathy Balaji and Shivam Sharma claimed two each.

Earlier, David Miller cracked a 29-ball 66 as Kings XI Punjab scored an impressive 198 for eight in 20 overs.

Virender Sehwag (30) and Mandeep Singh (21) provided a fine start sharing 60 runs for the first wicket.

Glenn Maxwell who is in a stunning form lasted just 11 deliveries but smashed 25 before Miller took over from him.

His innings studded with eight boundaries and three sixes and small contributions from lower the order meant Punjab reached 198.

For Bangalore, Mitchell Starc, Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal took two wickets each.

That's the end of De Villiers as well as Bangalore for the moment. He was fighting a lone battle but is gone as soon as he scores his half century. RCB 125-7 in 15.4 overs.

AB de Villiers c Patel b Balaji 53 (26b 1x4 5x6)

Bangalore need some explosive overs if they were to reach anywhere closer to the target. RCB 109-6 in 15 overs.

Playing XI

RCB: Chris Gayle, Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Yuvraj Singh, Albie Morkel, Mitchell Starc, Sachin Rana, Harshal Patel, Varun Aaron, Yuzvendra Chahal

KXIP: Mandeep Singh, Virender Sehwag, Wriddhiman Saha, Glenn Maxwell, George Bailey, David Miller, Akshar Patel, Mitchell Johnson, Shivam Sharma, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Sandeep Sharma.

The focus on this crucial match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab will clearly be on Glenn Maxwell and Chris Gayle as they clash at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore on Friday.

Maxwell has shown tremendous form since he arrived to play the IPL scoring heavily but Gayle has just began to play his normal cricket after having missed the first few matches due to injury.

Banglore will also look for the home advantage but with Kings XI Punjab sitting pretty on the top of the table, it would not be an easy run though.
