IPL 7 T20 CSK vs MI Eliminator: Raina shines as Chennai knock out Mumbai

Chennai Super Kings knocked out Mumbai Indians beating them by a comfortable seven-wicket in the Eliminator of the Indian Premier League in Mumbai.

Chennai will now face Kings XI Punjab in the Qualifier 2 on Friday.

The hosts bowling failed badly in the second part of the innings as Chennai chased down the target with eight balls to spare.

Suresh Raina's performance stood out who scored an unbeaten 54. He also shared a vital 89-run stand with David Hussey (40 not out) that helped Chennai get past the target.

Dwayne Smith (24) and Faf du Plessis (35) gave a fine start with crucial contributions.

Earlier, Lendl Simmons scored an impressive 67 from 44 balls to lift Mumbai Indians to 173 for eight in 20 overs.

The score could have been further better but they lost too many wickets at the end.

Among others to contribute were Corey Anderson (20), Rohit Sharma (20) and Keiron Pollard (14).

For Chennai Super Kings, Mohit Sharma claimed three wickets while Ashish Nehra and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two each.

That's it. In the end it was an easy win for Chennai with Raina remaining unbeaten on 54 while David Hussey scored 40 not out. CSK 176-3 in 18.4 overs.

It should be a smooth finish for Chennai as they need 14 from 18 balls. CSK  160-3 in 17 overs.

Chennai in the driver seat now. Three sixes in Ojha's over has completely changed the scenario. CSK 152-3 in 16 overs.

It looked all well for Praveen till his last ball when Hussey fired it for a big six making it easy for Chennai. CSK 132-3 in 15 overs.

The match is going down the wire for sure. Chennai need 56 from 36 balls. CSK 118-3 in 14 overs.

Harbhajan Singh finishes off his overs. He bowled well to concede 27 runs claiming two wickets. CSK 109-3 in 13 overs.

Just five runs from Ojha's second over as the pressure builds up for Chennai. With Dhoni and Jadeja still to come the calculations do not look scary. CSK 103-3 in 12 overs.

Well-timed six from Raina. Was a sight to watch as Chennai need 76 from 54 balls. CSK 98-3 in 11 overs.

Halfway through Chennai are 89 for 3.

McCullum got a six after Dunk missed a catch to drop it outside the rope but Ojha gets him stumped the very next ball. CSK 87-3 in 9.3 overs.

McCullum cuts loose as he hammers a huge six off Harbhajan Singh. Barring that Harbhajan has been good giving away 12 from his two overs. CSK 80-2 in 9 overs.

Two new batsmen in the middle. Taking their time to settle down as Raina gets a boundary of the last ball of Anderson. CSK 72-2 in 8 overs.

Trouble for Chennai as they lose another settled batsman. Du Plessis offers a simple catch at long on to Dunk. CSK 64-2 in 6.5 overs.

Mumbai get their first breakthrough as Harbhajan strikes. Smith had a very strange innings being lucky a couple of times. CSK 60-1 in 6.2 overs.

A big over for Chennai as 17 runs comes off it. Not a good start for Bumrah. Smith is on 24 while Du Plessis batting on 34. CSK 60-0 in 6 overs.

Praveen Kumar has bowled a superb spell. His three overs have been outstanding giving away only 13 runs. CSK 43-0 in 5 overs.

A superb over for Chennai as Du Plessis finds the fence twice and once over it. He was lucky there when a mix-up between Rayudu and Harbhajan ended in a dropped catch. MI 38-0 in 4 overs.

A great over for Praveen. He was disappointed after his lbw appeal was turned down. Smith was lucky there as it was clearly hitting the middle stump. CSK 20-0 in 3 overs.

Two boundaries from the bat of Du Plessis as Chennai need 158 from 108 balls. CSK 16-0 in 2 overs.

Praveen is swinging the ball crazily. He is troubling the batsmen. Despite the good bowling, Smith sneaks in a boundary. CSK 6-0 in 1 over.

Praveen Kumar opens the bowling attack as Smith and Du Plessis start for Chennai.

MUMBAI INDIANS

Mumbai batsmen completely missing the logic here as they lose another. It's fourth wicket in seven deliveries. MI 166-8 in 19.4 overs.

Mumbai losing the momentum as another wicket falls. Batsmen are just throwing them away. This time it's Rayudu. MI 164-7 in 19.1 overs.

Mumbai lose another as last match star Aditya Tare departs without disturbing the scorer. MI 164-6 in 19 overs.

Pollard stays for a brief while and makes a quick 14 before he is removed by Nehra. Quite a revenge after he was hit for a six and a boundary. MI 163-5 in 18.4 overs.

Kieron Pollard c Sharma b Nehra 14 (8b 1x4 1x6)

Another wicket falls in quick succession as skipper Sharma departs. But he did play a crucial role during his brief stay. MI 150-4 in 17.3 overs.

Rohit Sharma c McCullum b Sharma 20 (16b 3x4 0x6)

Jadeja takes his second wicket to end Simmon's great run. It was a fantastic knock from him. MI 143-3 in 16.4 overs.

Another rocking over for Mumbai as 13 runs is scored. A boundary from Rohit and a six from Simmons. That was the fifth six for the West Indian. MI 140-2 in 16 overs.

Mumbai are 127 for 2 in 15 overs.

Simmons reaches a well deserving half century. Two boundaries in the over off Sharma. MI 117-2 in 14 overs.

Despite the wicket, Simmons makes up for it with a big six. MI 108-2 in 13 overs.

Ashwin gets Anderson as his big hit does not find the distance. Pandey takes a brilliant catch in the deep. MI 99-2 in 12.1 overs.

Runs suddenly has slowed down for Mumbai with Jadeja also bowling a fine first over leaking four runs. MI 63-0 in 8 overs.

Ashwin starts off well giving away only four runs. MI 57-0 in 7 overs.

Mohit goes for 20 with Simmons going berserk smashing a couple of boundaries and a six. MI 53-0 in 6 overs.

Hussey gets another boundary top edging Mohit over slips.

Hussey punches Pandey over his head and pulls him round with a short arm jab for consecutive hits to the fence. MI 34-0 in 5 overs.

Hussey slaps Mohit through the cover for his first boundary. MI 23-0 in 4 overs.

Simmons gets another boundary cracking Pandey through the covers. MI 13-0 in 2 overs.

Simmons hits the first boundary of the match clipping Nehra to midwicket. MI 6-0 in 1 over.

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to field in the Eliminator of IPL 7 against Mumbai Indians.
