An explosive innings from Virat Kohli and a five-wicket haul from Jaydev Unadkat helped Royal Challengers Bangalore edge past Delhi Daredevils by four runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi on Friday.

After Kohli’s unbelievable 58-ball 99 propelled Bangalore to a huge 183, Delhi put a good fight but lost wickets at regular intervals to fall short by four runs finishing at 179 for seven in 20 overs.

Opener Mahela Jayawardene (19) and Virender Sehwag (18) provided a brisk start which was well carried on by Unmukt Chand, who hit a steady 35-ball 41.

Ben Rohrer blasted a 32 from 27 balls but Unadkat’s fiery spell meant Delhi were out of the race.

Irfan Pathan (23 not out) and Mornie Morkel (19) provided a late surge to bring Delhi back into contention but they could only get close to it.

Earlier, after having got two reprieves early on, Kohli made good use of it to smash a brilliant 99 off just 58 balls.

Daredevils have themselves to blame after giving Kohli two chances with Mornie Morkel bowling a no-ball after Kohli had edged it to the wicketkeeper and Sehwag dropping the other.

Till the 16th over it never looked Bangalore could post a strong total as they had managed to reach only 106 with contributions from Cheteswar Pujara (17) and Moises Henriques (26).

The last three overs saw both Kohli and AB de Villiers spitting fire dealing mostly in sixes and boundaries scoring an astounding 77 runs.

They thrashed the Delhi bowlers all around the park to share a 94-run stand for the fourth wicket to give Bangalore a huge total to defend.

Kohli’s innings came off just 58 balls including 10 boundaries and four sixes while De Villiers made an unbeaten 32 from only 17 balls laced with two fours and as many sixes.

Superb hitting from Kohli and De Villiers. 24 runs coming off that over. And Bangalore looks in a good position at 148 for 3 in 18 overs.

M Henriques c & b Nadeem 26 (22b 3x4 0x6)

Bangalore looks to be losing their way here. Nadeem does a great job to take a low catch off his own bowling. Bangalore are 89 for 3 in 13.2 overs.

Boundaries still not coming for Bangalore. Delhi bowlers are doing a great job. Bangalore are 89 for 2 in 13 overs.
