IPL6: Chennai win by four wickets to stun Kolkata

Ravindra Jadeja smashed a 14-ball 36 to power Chennai Super Kings to a four-wicket victory against Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 26 of IPL6 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday.

Jadeja hammered three sixes, including the winning hit off Pathan in the last over, and three boundaries to steer Chennai to 124 for 6 in 19.1 overs.

It capped a fine all-round performance by Jadeja who also claimed three for 20 as Chennai won with five balls to spare.

Chasing a relatively small target of 120, Chennai were struggling to force the pace as Kolkata kept chipping away.


Ashwin failed to make an impact after being promoted to open and were reduced to 40 for three after nine overs.

Chennai skipper Dhoni was dismissed by a brilliant piece of fielding from Morganto  while Badrinath was bowled by Kallis in the 16th.

Hussey grafted 40 off 51 balls with two boundaries and six before being sixth out at 89 in the 17th over.

Kolkata sniffed victory at this stage before Jadeja stunned the home fans with his belligerent knock which contained three sixes and three boundaries.

Bravo was with him on seven.

Spinners Senanayake and Narine choked Chennai in the middle overs and picked up a wicket apiece.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings restricted Kolkata Knight Riders to 119-9.

Opting to bat, Kolkata got off to a flying start with skipper Gambhir (25) and Yusuf Pathan (25) posting 46 in 5.5 overs.

But their innings unravelled therafter to a mixture of poor shot selection, brilliant fielding and excellent bowing.

Hussey took a brilliant catch at third man to dismiss Gambhir, Kallis was run out by a direct hit from Badrinath while Jadeja took a well judged catch running as Morgan tried to chip Bravo over the infield.

Pathan was run out after hesitating for a second run while Sharma took a stunning overhead catch to dismiss Tiwary.

Das smashed a six off Ashwin but was trapped leg before while Jadeja struck twice in quick succession in the 16th.

Narine hammered a couple of sixes to take Kolkata past 100.

Jadeja had the best return of three for 20 and Ashwin claimed two for 21.

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS INNINGS

Chennai have virtually sealed victory with three boundaries off the 19th over from Kallis. Chennai 118-6

Jadeja clobbers Narine for his second six in the 18th over. Chennai 103-6 needing 17 off 12 balls.

Narine finishes with figures of 4-0-20-1.

Chennai are 93-6 after 17 with Jadeja hitting another boundary off the last ball from Balaji.

Balaji is hit for a huge six by Jadeja off the first ball but strikes back to dismiss Hussey who hits straight to Pathan.

Hussey ends the drought of boundaries with a huge hit over midwicket for a six off Kallis who goes for 10 in the 16th over. Chennai 80-5.

Kallis strikes in his third over knocking back the stumps of Badrinath. Chennai are 71-5 in 15.3 overs.

Narine back into the attack in the 15th over and concedes just four runs. Chennai are 7-4 and need 50 from 30 balls.

Chennai pick up six runs from Kallis' second over and need 54 from 36 balls. Chennai 66-4.

Bhatia bowls a tight 13th over conceding just four runs as Chennai need 60 from 42 balls now.

Kallis gives away just three runs in his first over in which Dhoni was run out. Chennai 56-4 in12 overs.

Kolkata are rocking and have bounced back right into the game.

They have taken the scalp of Dhoni who is run out by a brilliant hit from Morgan backing up too far at the non-striker's end.

Boundaries have dried up as five runs off the over from Balaji in the 11th. Chennai 53-3.

Chennai are 48-3 at the halfway mark needing 72 from 60 balls.

Hussey and Dhoni are content to rotate the strike as Bhatia goes for eight runs in his first over.

Pathan has struck in his first over as Raina loft him but fails to clear Narine on the long on boundary.

Senanayake strikes with the second delivery of his final over trapping Vijay leg before.

The spin duo Senanayake and Narine are throtling Chennai who are biding their time chasing a small target of 120.

Vijay survives a confident shout for lbw off Narine in the last ball of the seventh over. Chennai 30-1.

Senanayake bowls an excellent over to Hussey giving away a single off the last ball. Chennai 27-1.

Narine has struck almost immediately as Ashwin fails to clear the infield hitting straight to Senanayake.

Ashwin gets a boundary but is frustrated by Senanayake in the fourth. Chennai 22-0.

Hussey square drives Balaji for his second boundary as Chennai reach 17-0 after three overs.

Hussey hits his first boundary with a superbly timed cover drive off Senanayake in the second over.

Hussey survives a run out opportunity after being sent back by Ashwin.

Ashwin being promoted to open for Chennai hit the first boundary of the innings flicking Balaji to square leg.

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS ININGS

Balaji hits a boundary off Morkel in the 19th. Kolkata 115-9.

Jadeja finishes with figures of 4-0-20-3.

Narine smashed a second six this time off Jadeja but perishes going for another one. Kolkata 107-9.

Das has hit the first six of the match smashing Bravo over long on in the 10th over as Kolkata reach 65-4 at the half way mark.

Some hesitancy by Pathan turning back for a second has resulted in another run out as Kolkata are in dire straits now.

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will host Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a titanic Match 26 of IPL6 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

These two teams met in the summit clash last season where the Knight Riders prevailed in a high-scoring final.

The hosts come into this match at the back of a four-run loss against Kings XI Punjab.

KKR have won both their home fixtures this season.

CSK have won three of their five matches so far including an emphatic 86-run against Delhi Daredevils in their last outing.
