IPL6: Kolkata rout Hyderabad by 48 runs

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) crushed SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 17 of IPL6 by 48 runs to notch their second win at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.

It is their biggest win in front of their home crowd who got their monies worth on Super Sunday.

Chasing a formidable target of 181, Hyerabad got off to a decent start with openers White (34) and Patel (27) posting 57 in nine overs.

Apart from Thisara Perera (36), the rest of the batting failed to fire facing a tough target.

Kallis capped a fine all-rounder performance by having the best return of three for 12 bowling slow off cutters.

IPL debutant Sachitra Senanayake also impressed with figures of 4-0-18-1 while Rajat Bhatia claimed two for 33.

Earlier, KKR opting to bat first on a slow track made a formidable 180 for 4.

They got off to a flying start with Bisla scoring a 24-ball 28 with five boundaries.

Gambhir maintained the momentum hitting 53 off 45 balls with six boundaries and a six to complete his 18th IPL fifty.

Kallis and Morgan stepped up the ante during a 67-run stand for the third wicket.

Morgan smashed three sixes and five boundaries during his blistering knock of 47 off 21 balls before being run out by Steyn.

Kallis was last man out for 41 off 27 balls hitting six boundaries as the last five over yielded 71 runs.

Thisara was the most expensive going for 44, including 24 in one over.

Sharma and Ashish Reddy picked up a wicket apiece.

Tiwary takes a superb catch in the deep as Sangakkara goes back cheaply.

Pathan takes a brilliant catch in the boundary as Kallis strikes again to get the big wicket of White.

Hyderabad have made a steady start having reach 68 for the loss of Patel at the halfway stage and White batting on 34.

White is turning it on attacking Bhatia by smashing consecutive boundaries.

Kallis gets the first breakthrough for Kolkata breaking the 57-runs opening stand in the ninth over.

Kallis caps an excellent ninth over in which he frustrated Patel who is bowled playing across the line going for a big hit.

Another tidy over from Senanayake giving away five runs while having Partel in a spot of bother.

Kallis is run out off the last ball turning back for a second as Kolkata finish on 180-4 in 20 overs.

Morgan's wonderful comes to an end run out as Steyn beats him with an underarm throw.

Kallis gets into the act by steering Steyn over the keeper for boundary to third man.

Morgan is unstoppable hammering a six off Steyn in the 19th over.

Thisara goes for 22 in the 18th over as Morgan blasts four boundaries, including three in successive balls.

The 50-runs partnership between Kallis and Morgan for the third wicket comes in just 24 balls.

He begins with flat batted shot to midwicket which goes one bounce into the fence, lofts the next back over the bowler for a six followed by another boundary to midwicket.

Kallis smashes consecutive boundaries off Ishant beginning by slicing to third man and an orthodox cover drive as 13 runs come of the 17th over.

Morgan has hit consecutive boundaries off Mishra beginning with a six which goes soaring into the stands followed by a streaky boundary behind the stumps.

Morgan spoils a good over from Steyn by edging the last ball through the vacant slip to third man for a boundary.

Reddy has struck a deadly blow castling Kolkata skipper Gambhir with a superb ball.

Gambhir goes attempting to heave Reddy out of the ground but missing the line completely.

Kallis punches Reddy through extra cover for a boundary to bring up the 100 of the innings in the 14th over.

Kallis hits first boundary with a delicate late cut to third man off Perera.

Gambhir hits his 18th IPL fifty off 39 balls by cracking Sharma to point for his sixth boundary.

At the halfway stabe, KKR are comfortably placed a 76-1 in 10 overs with Gambhir on 43 off 33 balls.

Gambhir has hit the first six of the match sending Sharma sailing over long on in the 10th over.

Gambhir picks up a boundary off Mishra with a slog-sweep to midwicket.

Karan Sharma strikes in his first over as Bisla lofts him straight to Vihari at midwicket.

Gambhir has blasted consecutive boundaries off Mishra in his first over on either side of the wicket.

Gambhir cracks wide delivery from Ishant for his second boundary as KKR make their best start of the tournament reach 48 for no loss in the Powerplay overs.

Bisla has smacked Thisara for consecutive boundaries through cover and midoff in the fifth over.

Bisla spoils a good opening over by Ishant by dancing down the track and lofting him over mid-on for a boundary in the fourth over.

Gambhir also helps himself to a boundary off Vihari who goes for 15 in his first over.

Bisla has swept the first ball from Vihari for the first boundary followed by another one to midwicket.

Bisla and Gambhir open for KKR against Dale Steyn who gives away just three runs.

Kolkata have won the toss and opted to bat.

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders take on the impressive SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 17 of 6 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.

Kolkata won their opening match against the Delhi Daredevils but came second best in their matches against the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have won three of their four matches and sit among the top four teams in the table.

In their last outing, they held their nerve to win a low-scoring contest against the Delhi Daredevils by three wickets.
