IPL6: Mumbai go second with 65-run win over Kolkata
Mumbai Indians surged to second in the IPL6 standings after routing Kolkata Knight Riders by 65 runs in Match 53 at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday night.
Chasing a stiff target of 171, Kolkata were never in the hunt once they lost skipper Gambhir in the first over bowled by Johnson.
After a brief stand between Bisla (17) and Kallis (24) for the second wicket, their innings crumbled with wickets tumbling at regular intervals.
Ojha did the initial damage having Bisla caught behind and bowling Pathan who smashed a boundary and six.
Debrata Das hit a defiant 23 with two boundaries and two sixes before chipping a return catch to Harbhajan who had the best return of three for 27.
Johnson claimed two for 13 and Ojha two for 23.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians overcame a slight wobble in the middle overs to post a formidable 170-4.
Opting to bat first, they were given a flying start by openers Smith (47) and Tendulkar (48) with a 93-run stand.
Tendulkar in particular was in sparkling form hitting five boundaries in an over from McLaren.
They departed with four balls of each other.
Sharma dismissal at the beginning of the 18th over triggered a collapse which saw Mumbai lose four wickets within the space of nine balls for 14 runs as they slipped to 144-6.
A brilliant 18-ball unbeaten cameo of 34 with three boundaries and two sixes helped Mumbai finish their innings with a flourish.
The last five overs yielded 64 runs with 35 coming of the last two.
McLaren went for 60 though claiming two wickets.
