IPL6: Rajasthan win high-scoring thriller over Pune

Rajasthan Royals pulled a thrilling five-wicket win over Pune Warriors India with a ball to spare in Match 50 of IPL6 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday.

Rajasthan maintained their unbeaten record at home with their sixth successive win.

More significantly kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the play-offs displacing Sunrisers Hyderabad from fourth spot on a better net run rate.

Chasing a stiff target of 179, Rajasthan were set on their way by a solid 98-run opening stand by Rahul Dravid (58) and Ajinkya Rahane (67).

Dravid displayed vintage form stroking nine boundaries and a six complete 2,000 IPL runs in the process.

Rahane was equally fluent opening up in the 14th over by hammering three boundaries and a six off Mathews.

He put them backon track after Pune threatened to derail their run chase when Watson and Parnell were dismissed cheaply.

After Rahane fell, Binny continued the onslaught smashing two sixes and two boundaries during his 13-ball 32 while Samson chipped in with two crucial boundaries.

Parnell playing his first match of the season claimed three for 27.

Earlier, Pune Warriors India were propelled by a 97-run opening stand between Robin Uthappa (54) and Aaron Finch (45) to make 178-4 in 20 overs.

Rajasthan put the skids on their scoring as Pune lost three wickets for 22 runs in four overs.

Mitchell Marsh blasted a 21-ball unbeaten 35 with three sixes and two boundaries to end their innings with a flourish during a 41-run stand for the fourth wicket with Mathews (18).

RAJASTHAN ROYALS INNINGS

Binny hit a boundary off the penultimate ball from Parnell to steer Rajasthan Royals to a thrilling five-wicket win against Pune Warriors.

Parnell provides a twist in the tale as Samson is caught by Birla in the second ball of the final over from Parnell. RR 175-5.

Yuvraj drops a scorching drive from Binny who smashes a six off Kumar in the 19th over as Rajasthan race to victory. RR 174-4.

Pune hit back as Hodge holes out to Kumar. RR 150-4.

Sharma goes for 14 in the 17th over with Binny hammering a boundary and a six. RR 150-3.

Pune hit back as Parnell bowls Watson. RR 128-2.

Rahane also brings up his half century in style by slamming Mathews over extra cover for a six.

Pune make a breakthrough as Dravid holes out to Marsh at long-off. RR 98-1.

Dravid brings up his half century in style dancing down the track and lofting Sharma for a sixover long-on. RR 94-0 in 11 overs.

Rajasthan have also made a solid start being 84 for no loss with Dravid on 48 and Rahane 33.

Dravid has driven Mathews through the covers for his ninth boundary to bring up 2,000 IPL runs.

Upadhyay goes for 13 in his third over with Dravid cracking consecutive boundaries. RR 53-0 in 6 overs.

Dravid gets a boundary off Parnell. RR 40-0 in 5 overs.

Rahane gets into the act blasting a six and boundary off Upadhyay. RR 33-0 in 4 overs.

Dravid is on his way cracking another couple of boundaries off Kumar. RR 19-0 in 3 overs.

Dravid opens the run chase for Rajasthan with two lovely boundaries off Kumar. RR 9-0 in 1 over.

PUNE WARRIORS INDIA INNINGS

Marsh smashes a six of the final ball from Faulkner as Pune Warriors reach 178-4 in 20 overs.

Mathews fails to clear Rahane at long on. PWI 170-4.

Marsh blasts a couple of sixes over midwicket and long-off in the 19th over bowled by Cooper.

Mathews gets a boundary with an edge to third man off Cooper. PWI 142-3 in 17 overs.

Uthappa is run out by a brilliant hit from wicket keeper Samson. PWI 129-3.

Rajasthan remove the big-hitting Yuvraj who miscues a pull shot to Cooper. PWI 124-2.

Uthappa hits consecutive boundaries off Trivedi to reach his half century off 40 balls.

Yuvraj cracks a boundary and slams a huge six off Binny to get into his stride. PWI 113-1 in 13 overs.

Trivedi who was hit for a couple of boundaries in his previous over bowls a tight one. PWI 102-1 in 12 overs.

Rajasthan finally get a breakthrough as Cooper castles Finch off an inside edge to end a 97-run opening stand. PWI 97-1.

Finch (42) and Uthappa (41) have given Pune a roaring start being 92 for no loss at the halfway stage.

Finch smashes Watson for a scorching boundary over point. PWI 80-0 in 9 overs.

Uthappa hits the first six of the match off Binny despite Chandila taking a superb catch but going over the line. PWI 74-0 in 8 overs.

Finch virtually chips Cooper over midon for another boundary as Pune are to a fast start in the Powerplay overs. PWI 61-0 in 6 overs.

Finch slams a slower delivery from Faulkner over extra cover for another boundary. PWI 50-0 in 5 overs.

Watson goes for 13 in his first over with Uthappa cracking three boundaries, including two in succession, with superbly timed shots. PWI 43-0 in 4 overs.

Uthappa has cracked consecutive boundaries off Chandila who goes for 14 in his second over with Finch also hitting a boundary. PWI 30-0 in 3 overs.

Finch has whipped Faulker off his pads for his second boundary. PWI 16-0 in 2 overs.

Finch cuts the last from Chandila to the point boundary. PWI 9-0 in 1 over.

Pune have won the toss and opted to bat against Rajasthan.
