IPL6: Watson powers Rajasthan to victory

Rajasthan Royals powered by a blistering unbeaten 98 off 53 balls romped to an eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 36 of IPL6 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday.

Chasing a target of 145, RR made 146-2 in 17.5 overs as they maintained their unbeaten record at home.

They got off to a quiet start after losing Rahane in the third over.

Skipper Dravid (36) opening the innings crafted the recovery with a 64-run stand for the second wicket with Watson.

The Australian took charge thereafter as he opened out smashing four sixes and 13 fours stepping up the assault in the last five overs which yielded 57 runs.

Sharma was the most expensive going for 35 in 3 overs, Perera claimed one for 34 while Steyn had the best figures of one for 15.  

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad made an amazing recovery after being down in the dumps to make 144-9.

Rajasthan had them on the ropes at 29-6 in 6.1 overs and Hyderabad seemed to be out for the count after opting to bat first.

But World Cup winning T20 captain Darren Ganga fashioned a magnificent recovery by hitting his maiden IPL fifty.

He was ably assisted by Amit Mishra (21) during a 58-run stand for the seventh wicket.

Sammy's 41-ball 60 contained eight boundaries and a six.

Sammy held the tail together with reddy contributing 14 and Steyn hammering three boundaries, including a six, in the final over as Hyderabad finished with a flourish.

Faulkner was the chief destroyer claiming a career best five for 20 while Chandila scalped two for 13.

Cooper and Binny also struck at crucial intervals.

RAJASTHAN ROYALS INNINGS

Watson smashed a six and couple of boundaries off consecutive balls to steer Rajasthan Royals to victory with seven balls to spare.

Rajasthan Royals are within sight of victory with Steyn having completed his spell. RR 130-2 in 17 overs.

Perera goes for 15 in the 16th over with Watson slamming a six and couple of boundaries. RR 124-2 in 16 overs.

Watson is on fire pulling Perera over midwicket for his third six as Rajasthan are racing to victory.

Sharma goes for 20 in the 15th over with Watson hammering three boundaries and a six. RR 109-2 in 15 overs.

Watson completes his 10th IPL fifty off 39 balls slashing Sharma past the keeper for a boundary and repeating the shot again next ball.

Watson gets a boundary off Sammy with Vihari failing to latch onto a chance. RR 89-2 in 14 overs.

Perera has got the breakthrough for Hyderabad as Dravid fails to clear Vihari on the boundary. RR 81-2.

It also ended a 74-run partnership for the second wicket between Dravid and Watson.

Dravid clips Sammy to fine leg for a boundary as Rajasthan get their run chase back on track. RR 78-1 in 12 overs.

Mishra goes for 17 in his second over with Watson clobbering him for second six over midwicket. RR 70-1 in 11 overs.

Dravid has hit the first six of the Rajasthan innings dancing down the track and sending Mishra soaring over long-on to bring up the 50 parntership with Watson.

Watson manages to get a boundary off Sharma as RR reach 53-1 at the halfway stage.

Watson survives a confident appeal for leg before in Mishra's first over. RR 45-1 in 9 overs.

Sammy bowls a tight first over giving away just two runs. RR 42-1 in 8 overs.

Watson helps himself to a couple of boundaries off Perera, though living dangerously slashing past the vacant slip. RR 40-1 in 7 overs.

Dravid has cracked a couple of boundaries off Sharma as RR reach 30-1 in 6 overs.

Watson punches Steyn for a boundary through point. RR 21-1 in 5 overs.

Steyn is bowling is third over as Sangakkara is attacking looking for another wicket.

Watson cracks a boundary off Perera. RR 13-1 in 4 overs.

Steyn bowls a wicket maiden in the third over putting pressure on Rajasthan. RR 7-1 in 3 overs.

Steyn strikes in his second over as Rahane gets a faint nick to be caught behind by Sangakkara. RR 7-1.

Steyn bowls a good first over conceding just one run.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD INNINGS

Cooper's final over goes for 17 as Steyn clobbers two boundaries and a six as Hyderabad finish with a flourish to make 144-9.

Faulker scalps his fifth wicket with Sammy being adjudged leg before after a wonderful knock. SRH 127-9 in 19 overs.

Sammy continues to keep alive Hyderabad's hopes of setting a competitiive target for Rajasthan slamming a boundary off Binny. SRH 99-7 in 16 overs.

Faulkner has amazing figures of 3-0-11-4.

Faulker returns to break the defiant 58-run stand for the seventh wicket as Mishra holes out to Cooper. SRH 87-7.

Sammy hits the first six of the match pulling Trivedi over midwicket in the 13th over. SRH 83-6 in 13 overs.

It also brings up the 50 partnership with Mishara for the seventh wicket in 40 balls.

Hyderabad have recovered to reach 64-6 at the halfway stage with Darren Sammy spearheading a counter attack hooking Cooper for another boundary. SRH 64-6 in 10 overs.

Sammy hits an exquisite cover drive for a boundary. SRH 57-6 in 9 overs.

Mishra edges Trivedi to third man to bring up the 50 of the SRH innings in the ninth over.

Mishra glances Watson to fine leg for a welcome boundary. SRH 46-6 in 8 overs.

Hyderabad are trying to beat the count having been shocked by another dismissal as Vihari is caught behind off Cooper's first ball with Yagnik taking a good legside catch. SRH 29-6.

Quinton de Kock, Cameron White and Thalaivan Sargunan have been replaced by me Sangakkara, Thisara Perera and Akshath Reddy for Sunrisers.

Sachin Baby makes his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals coming in for Rahul Shukla.
