IPL8 KXIP vs CSK: Chennai thrash Punjab by 7 wickets

Chennai Super Kings beat Kings XI Punjab by seven wickets in Mohali.

Needing 131 to win, Faf du Plessis (55), Suresh Raina (37 not out) and MS Dhoni (25 not out) scored well to achieve the target in 16.4 overs.

Earlier, batting first Axar Patel and Rishi Dhawan helped Punjab reach 130-7 in 20 overs.

Faf du Plessis gets to his half century from 36 balls including five boundaries and a six.

Punjab is giving Chennai the run for their money as Hendricks removes McCullum. CSK 10-2 in 1.5 overs.

Hussey does nothing much after returning to the playing XI as he edges one to the keeper off Sharma. CSK 2-1 in 1 over.

Axar Patel (32) and Rishi Dhawan (25 not out) shared a 44-run stand for the seventh wicket to help Kings XI Punjab achieve a respectable 130 for seven in 20 overs.

Brilliant bowling from Chennai saw the top order of Kings XI Punjab collapse with almost all the bowlers taking wickets. Pawan Negi was the pick of the bowlers to claim two.

After some fine hitting, Patel goes attempting a big one. He gets a top edge easily taken by Dhoni. KXIP 122-7 in 19 overs.

Miller is the next one to go as it looks Kings XI Punjab looks to finish with a low score. KXIP 78-6 in 13.5 overs.

Another flop show from Maxwell as Punjab seems to be collapsing. Jadeja's fine ball beats Maxwell to the stumps. KXIP 55-5 in 9.5 overs.

Nothing going right of Punjab as Gurkeerat succumbs. He too gave a fine start but failed to carry on. KXIP 53-4 in 8.3 overs.

Gurkeerat Singh st Dhoni b Ashwin 15 (14b 3x4 0x6)

Punjab in big trouble as they lose their third wicket. Vohra offers a simplex catch to Nehra at third man. KXIP 35-3 in 5.1 overs.

Manan Vohra c Nehra b Pandey 4 (7b 0x4 0x6)

Punjab lose another as Bailey departs. He also got a good start but failed to carry on as he offers a simple catch to Dhoni. KXIP 31-2 in 4.1 overs.

George Bailey c Dhoni b Nehra 12 (7b 2x4 0x6)

Saha made a promising start but was out caught easily by McCullum off Negi. KXIP 16-1 in 2.2 overs.

Wriddhiman Saha c McCullum b Negi 15 (12b 1x4 1x6)

Chennai Super Kings will try to finish off the league on a winning note after having already qualified for the knockout stage. 

Kings XI Punjab have nothing to lose but can disturb the top two positioning for Chennai if they win.
