It will be a battle of captains when Chennai Super Kings take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Qualifier 2 of IPL8 at JSCA International Cricket Stadium, Ranchi on Friday.

After Virat Kohli was officially named as India’s Test captain for the Bangladesh tour, the contest will certainly be the one to watch.

While Dhoni known for his cool captaincy, it’s got to be seen if Kohli will be able to break the barrier through his aggressive tactics.

But for the record, CSK will remain the favourites having sealed victories on the previous two occasions the teams met in this edition.

RCB is coming off a big win over Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator, which should keep them in good stead while CSK suffered a terrible loss to Mumbai Indians in the first qualifier.

The head to head between the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore stands at 11-7 in favour of the former. Even the recent record between the two teams is tilted in favour of CSK, who won both their league fixtures against RCB this season.

CSK have an edge when it comes to their last-four stage matches against RCB too. RCB won their semi-final against CSK in 2009, but CSK got the better of RCB in the next two occasions – in Qualifier 1 and in the Grand Final in the 2011 season.

Bangalore’s fate largely depends on how their top batsmen fare especially the powerful Chris Gayle and the spectacular AB de Villiers.

CSK will miss their aggressive batsman Brendon McCullum who left for national duty. Despite his absence, CSK is still a formidable side and also have the home advantage.

Whatever might be the result, the match does promise to be a cracker.
