#MiracleBoyYuvi vs flat captain Dhoni: Indian cricket fans in Dubai join Twitter war

While Sri Lanka has not yet stopped partying, the probe into what went wrong with India’s performance has only just begun.

Who is going to take the blame for what should have been India’s final crowning glory of cricket dominance at least in the shorter versions of the game – turning into a meek and tame surrender?

As the T20 bandwagon prepares to fly into the UAE for the Indian Premier League, on the outfield of Mirpur, Bangladesh, lies the shattered dreams of MS Dhoni’s ‘favourites’ and the proud parade of the Lankan champions.

Sri Lanka are the new World T20 champions.

And opinion is sharply polarised on whether it is #MiracleBoyYuvi that is being unfairly targeted or MS Dhoni who got his tactics all wrong.

Twitter surged with India trends seeing huge support out for #MiracleBoyYuvi after reports emerged that irate Indian fans targeted Yuvraj Singh’s house.

Why? Yuvraj Singh came into bat at a pivotal moment in the game, with India batting first.

Virat Kohli had laid the platform for a final assault and Yuvi was supposed to go hell for leather.

What did he do? 11 runs of 21 balls.

India finished with a less than par score that one vast swathe of the billion cricket fans feel cost them the final.

With hitters like Dhoni and Raina simply watching from the pavilion as Yuvi failed to get Lasith Malinga away the frustration was evident, and boiling over.

As Sri Lanka savour their first major cricket win in 18 years, India is still boiling.

But the anti-Yuvi brigade has now met stiff opposition from the #MiracleBoyYuvi tweeters.

In Dubai too opinion is polarised.

“Yes, Yuvraj cost us the game simply because he wasted 10 balls. Dhoni or Raina should have come in simply because they are in better form,” says Indian expat in Dubai, Lalit Vase.

John Rajkumar, who runs the cricket site cricketinc.com, is of the opinion Dhoni cost us the match. “His captaincy was bad. Even with that score we had the bowling to defend it. He waited too long to bring on the spinners,” he says.

On Twitter the reactions were more severe.

The haters were harsh:

For the Lankans in Dubai though, it did not matter

"We are really happy that Sri Lanka won the T20 World Cup. It was a perfect farewell for Sangakkara and Jayawardene," said Rehana Kaffoor, who work for Emirates Airline.

"It was an emotional moment today when the two heroes (Sangakkara and Jayawardene) were carried off the field on shoulders of team mates. I personally feel that both of them still has so much more T20 cricket left with them to carry up to the next T20 World cup," said Gamal Rahim, a Sri Lankan manager in a shipping company.
