Jay Joshi stood tall once again with a match-winning performance as NHormus Divine Sindhis pulled off a 15-run win over Chawla Sindhi Royals in a low-scoring match of the Sindhi Premier Cricket League, organised by Sindhi Cricket Club and held under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) at The Sevens ground on Monday night.

If NHormus are sitting pretty with four wins from five matches they owe it partly to their captain Joshi. So much so that when he failed to score in the previous match they suffered their first defeat.

The lanky cricketer was back to what he does best, excelling in both departments. First he cracked a power-packed 57 from 47 balls to lift his team to 130 and later bagged two wickets to reduce Chawla to 115.

NHormus decided to take first strike but soon were in trouble. Their other star batsman Ashish Bhandari was sent for an early shower by Rajesh Thadani who looked devastating.

Thadani scalped another two wickets for match figures of 3 for 30, while Vinay Totani chipped in with two as NHormus struggled to get going.

But it was thanks to Jay who fought his way out of trouble with a polished knock which included a towering six and five hits to the boundary.

Yet the total didn’t seem good enough to defend. But, Ashish Bhandari, who flopped with the bat, came good with the ball for NHormus, claiming four wickets. And with support from Joshi and Karan Bhojwani they were able to choke Chawla to 115.

Only Vinay Mehra came unstuck with a fighting 40 from 34 balls (1x6, 5x4) but he lacked support from the other batsmen with four of them falling for a duck.

The next match will be played between Petrochem Sindhi Kings and Vintage Victorious Sindhis on December 5.
