Phoenix Medicine and Ibsons CC knocked out their more fancied opponents en route to making the semifinals of the Bukhatir League ‘A’ Division Tournament, organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council, at the Sharjah stadium.

Spurred on by solid half-century from Rohan Mustafa, Phoenix Medicine shocked defending champions William Hare Abu Dhabi Gymkhana by 95 runs in the first quarter-final while Kamran Shehzad produced an inspired spell of four for 34 to propel Ibsons CC to an equally convincing 76-run victory over Fly Emirates in other last-eight stage match.

Phoenix Medicine, batting first, scored 274. Mustafa led their batting charge with a solid 64 off 76 balls which included three fours and one six.

Adil Raja claimed three wickets at a cost of 66 runs.

The defending champions from Abu Dhabi, crashed to 179 in 40 overs, thanks to Ali Afzal and Mohammed Adnan, who shared five wickets.

Mohammed Shafiq (47 off 55 balls) offered some resistance, but Phoenix Medicine were in no mood to let the early initiative slip off their hands.

In the other quarter-final, Ibsons did exceedingly well to defend a modest total of 227 against Fly Emirates, rated as one of the premier outfits in the country.
Their task, in the end, looked stunningly simple as Fly Emirates were bowled out for just 151 in the 38th over.

Kamran Shehzad and Fayyaz Ahmed (three for 22) did most of the damage with telling spells.

Usman (42) and Nigel Fernandes (33), who were among the runs, only tended to delay the inevitable.

Earlier, Ibsons had built their innings around Faisan Asif (44 off 37 balls) and Waseem Baig (40 off 80 balls), who both played some sensible cricket to help their side post a decent total.
