Pakistan bounced back to level the five-match one-day series against South Africa with an emphatic six-wicket victory in the second match at Centurion on Friday.

Chasing a target of 192 under lights in a rain interrupted second one-day international against South Africa, Pakistan made 192-4 in 39.2 overs at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Friday.

The tourists won the rain-affected 44 overs a side match wwith 28 balls to spare at the same venue where they won the Twenty20 international against the hosts earlier.

Pakistan skipper Misbah ul Haq hit an unbeaten 57 off 75 which contained three sixes and three boundaries to power his side to victory.

Shoaib Malik was not out on 35 off 38 balls hitting four boundaries and a six during a 77 run stand off 92 balls for the unfinished fifth wicket to steer them home past the target.

Chasing a modest target of 192 in 44 overs, Pakistan were given a fine start by Mohammad Hafeez who hit a breezy 31 off 49 balls with three boundaries and a six despite losing Jamshed early.

They slipped to 69 for three by the 15th over before Younis Khan (32) steadied the innings with a fourth wicket stand of 46 with Misbah.

Left arm spinner Robin Peterson was the most successful bowler claiming twof or 52 while Ryan McLaren and Steyn picked up a wicket apiece.

Earlier, South Africa electing to bat first were rocked by a lethal spell from Mohammad Irfan.

The giant left arm pacer recorded career-best figures of four for 33 from seven overs as he and Junaid Khan sliced through South Africa's top order.

South Africa were reduced to 106 for six by the 21st over before Farhaan Behardien spearheaded the rearguard action with a maiden one-day fifty.

Hashim Amla and Colin Ingram fell in consecutive deliveries in the fifth over of the match.

The procession continued with Junaid Khan dismissing Graeme Smith caught behind by Kamran Akmal who had three scalps.

Behardien (58) and Robin Peterson (44) lifted South Africa with a fighting 67-run stand for the seventh wicket.

Behardien holed out to Malik in the deep before the rain interruption but South Africa added just 14 runs after resumption for the loss of three wickets to be all out for 191 in 43.2 overs.

PAKISTAN INNINGS

Misbah has smashed McLaren over extra cover for his third six as Pakistan are winning on a canter.

Misbah completes his 21st ODI fifty off 70 balls with a single having lofted McLaren's previous delivery straight over the bowler's head.

Pakistan have taken the batting Powerplay in the 37th over with 20 more needed for victory.

Pakistan are now cruising merrily to victory with Misbah getting into the act by stroking a boundary off Peterson.

The 50 partnership between Misbah and Shoaib for the fifth wickets comes off just 49 balls.

Malik has pulled Peterson over midwicket for a sweetly timed six.

Misbah has flicked Steyn to fine leg to score his first boundary.

Pakistan are racing to victory with neither Steyn or Tsotsobe unable to stem the run flow.

Tsotsobe has been struck for four boundaries by Malik, including three in succession.

Malik opens with a couple of boundaries by turning him to fine leg, edges him over the keeper's head to third man before finishing by smashing him over point.

Misbah has hit the second six of the Pakistan innings hoisting Peterson over the bowler's head to step up the tempo of the innings.

Peterson returns and gets almost instant success as Pakistan lose their fourth wicket.

Younis Khan swept a full toss from Peterson to Amla at deep square leg having got a boundary with a similar stroke to midwicket a few balls earlier.

Peterson ended a dangerous partnership between Misbah and Younis which yielded 46 runs off 67 balls.

Younis made 32 off 41 balls with three boundaries.

It was a productive over for Pakistan with Abbott going for 12 as Misbah decides to lead the run chase.

Misbah ul Haq finally gets out of his shell stepping out and lofting Abbott for a six to the long off boundary finishing a fine over for Pakistan by pulling him to midwicket for another boundary.

Younis Khan survives being run out after running for a single with no response from his partner scrambling back with Behardien missing with a direct hit.

The boundaries have dried up for Pakistan with the last one coming more than six overs ago.

Younis Khan survives after being given out lbw off Peterson a decision which is overturned with Pakistan being successful with the review as replays showed it would have missed the stumps.

Pakistan are struggling after a fluent start having lost Kamran Akmal bowled off his left arm spinner Robin Peterson's second over.

Akmal made 18 off 14 balls with two boundaries.

Steyn strikes dismissing Hafeez chipping to Abbot at midwicket after making 31 off 49 balls with three boundaries and a six.

This is the fifth time in the series Hafeez has been dismissed by Steyn who is on fire.

Akmal gets his second boundary with a sweetly timed shot through point.

Pakistan are off to cracking start despite the loss of Jamshed as they chase a target of 192 in a rain affect day-night match.

Amazingly the outfield is relatively dry despite rain pouring in buckets.

South Africa were bowled out for 191 in 43.1 overs having opted to bat in the second one-day international against Pakistan at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Friday.

The match has been reduced to 44 pers over per side after rain caused an interruption for over two hours.

SOUTH AFRICA INNINGS

Peterson is the last man out top edging to Jamshed at short third man off Ajmal after making 44 off 67 balls with three boundaries.

Steyn successfully appealed to overturn a leg before decision off Ajmal following a review which showed it would missed leg stump.

Ajmal strikes with his first delivery after resumption as Abbott fails to read a doosra playing across the line and lobbing a simple catch to Afridi at mid off.

The latest is that rain has stopped and following an inspection by the umpires, play is to resume shortly with the match being reduced to 44 overs per side game which means South Africa will come out to bat.

Play has been suspended as a precautionary measure because of lightning which has been followed by thunder showers with South Africa 177-7 after 38.4 overs.

South Africa lose their seventh wicket as Behardien gets a rush of blood and attempts to heave Hafeez out of the ground but it goes straight down the throat of Shoaib Malik at midwicket.

Umpires express concern about the weather particularly because there is lightning and thunder in the background though there is no threat of immediate rain.

Hafeez strikes with his third delivery trapping Ryan McLaren leg before after being unsuccessful in overturning a not out decision following a review in the previous delivery.

McLaren departs for 17 off 31 balls having added 44 runs with Behardien for the sixth wicket.

It is all out spin now with Muhammad Hafeez joining the attack from the other end.

Shahid Afridi has been introduced into the attack with South Africa 102 for five after 19 overs.

Behardien brings up the 100 of the South Africa innings in the 19th over pulling a short delivery from Gul to midwicket for his fifth boundary.

Behardien has got another boundary via an inside egdge off Gul.

Behardien has swept Ajmal for his third boundary as South Africa counter attack.

Spin has been introduced with Saeej Ajmal coming into the attack while Irfan continues to bowl unchanged from the other end with South Africa reeling.

Irfan (below) has career best figures of four for 31 from his devastating opening spell of six overs.



Irfan has struck again to claim his fourth wicket taking a return catch to dismiss South African captain Faf du Plessis for 17.

Du Plessis is done in by the extra bounce generated by the towering Irfan lobbing a catch back to the bowler having hit three boundaries.

The over began with Farhaan Behardien cracking a couple of boundaries off Irfan smacking him through point and then pulling him to midwicket.

Faf du Plessis brings up the 50 of the South Africa innings in the 10th over with a thick edge past slips to the third man fence.

Faf du Plessis gets his second boundary with a lovely straight drive off Irfan.

South Africa are crumbling as Junaid Khan strikes to dismiss Graeme Smith caught behind for 10 off 17 balls.

Smith tried to pull it but only succeeded in getting a faint edge as South Africa lose their fourth wicket.

Irfan is on fire having best figures of 3-13 so far having cleaned up the South African top order.

AB de Villiers opened his account thumping Irfan through extra cover but is dismissed next ball edging straight to Younis Khan at second slip.

Graeme Smith has hit his first boundary stepping out and clipping Junaid Khan to the square leg boundary.

Colin Ingram is adjudged caught behind for a first-ball duck off Irfan with Pakistan being successful with the decision referral.

South Africa won the toss and are batting in the day-night second one-day international against Pakistan at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Friday.

Steyn comes in for Rory Kleinveldt for South Africa while Mohammad Irfan is back replacing Asad Shafiq as Pakistan beef up their attack.

South Africa won the first match by 125 runs at Bloemfontein.
