Mohammed Asif slammed a solid half century while Qadir Nawaz grabbed three wickets to guide Seven Seas Strikers to a convincing 45-run victory over Eurocon Alubond in the 23rd Sharjah Ramadan Tournament for the Interface Transworld Cup at the Sharjah stadium on Wednesday night.
The 25-overs-a-side tournament, organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council, is supported by 106.2 HUM FM and CBFS as associate sponsors.
Asif cracked 63 off 58 balls as Seven Seas Strikers, batting first, seized the early initiative, scoring a healthy 180 for seven in the allotted 25 overs.
Atiqur Rehman (25 off 19 balls), Boota (22 off as many balls) and Hasnain (22 off 21 balls) also made useful contributions to consolidate the total with some fine batting.
Sheraz was the most success Eurocon bowler, taking three for 25
Eurocon Alubond, in reply, were restricted to 135 for nine with Qadir Nawaz taking three wickets for just 18 runs. Freddy Sidhwa, the grand old man of domestic cricket, also made his presence felt, snaring two wickets for 13 runs along with Mohsin (two for 20).
For Eurocon, Sheraz (39 off 43 balls) and Zulfiqar (21 off 14 balls) were among the runs, but their efforts were not enough to keep pace with the ever-increasing asking rate.
