Windies beat India in record T20 run haul

West Indies beat India by one run in a remarkable Twenty20 match featuring a record haul of 489 runs in Florida on Saturday.

In the first game featuring two full-strength international teams on American soil, West Indies amassed 245 for six with opener Evin Lewis smashing a century off 49 balls on his second T20 appearance.

Lewis belted nine sixes while fellow opener Johnson Charles chipped in with 79 off 33 deliveries at the Central Broward Stadium in Lauderhill.

Lokesh Rahul then crashed 110 in 51 balls as India went close to reaching their target, sending the large pro-Indian crowd into a frenzy.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was on strike for the final delivery bowled by Dwayne Bravo. He needed to score two runs to clinch victory but was caught by Marlon Samuels at third man.

The teams play a second Twenty20 at the same venue on Sunday.

India innings

West Indies have pulled off a thrilling one-run win over India after Bravo snared Dhoni in the last ball of the match with India needing two runs to win.

Dhoni who was dropped by Samuels in the first ball of the final over sliced a slower ball from Bravo to third man with the fielder making no mistake this time.

Chasing a daunting target of 246, India finished on 244-4 despite solid knocks from Rohit Sharma (62) and a brilliant 51-ball unbeaten century by Lokesh Rahul (110) which was laced with 12 fours and five sixes although hobbling with a toe injury during the latter part of his innings.

Bravo finished with two for 37 bowling a superb final over to deny Dhoni a grandstand finish.

Pollard gets the breakthrough for West Indies removing Sharma. Ind 138-3, 12 overs.

Rohit hoists Pollard for a six over long on to complete his half century off just 22 balls. Ind 116-2, 10 overs.

Narine goes for 16 with Rahul smashing a six and a couple of boundaries. Ind 67-2, 6 overs.

Bravo strikes getting the prized wicket of Kohli who gloves a rising ball to the keeper. Ind 51-2, 5 overs.

Kohli gets into his stride with a couple of boundaries off Badree. Ind 42-1, 4 overs.

Sharma hits two consecutive boundaries off Badree to get into his stride in the second over of the innings. Ind 19-0, 2 overs.

Windies innings

West Indies powered by a exhilarating maiden T20 century from Evin Lewis (100) and Jonathan Charles (79) helped them make 254-6 after being put into bat.

Charles launched the onslaught during his 33-ball knock slamming seven sixes and six boundaries during an opening stand of 126 off 9.3 overs.

Lewis took over from where he left clubbing nine sixes, including five off one over from Shami, and five boundaries during his 49-ball knock.

Bumrah is on a hat-trick after bowling Pollard and Simmons.

It's raining sixes off the blades of Charles and Lewis as West Indies openers post 101-0 in 8 overs.

Lewis gets into the act slamming the first two balls from Jadeja over the ropes on the leg side. WI 91-0, 7 overs.

Charles has raced to a 20-ball 50 lofting Ashwin for two consecutive sixes. WI 78-0, 6 overs.

Bumrah goes for 17 being Lewis and Charles swinging him for a couple of sixes. WI 64-0, 5 overs.

Lewis smashes Bumrah for the first maximum to bring up the 50 partnerhip in just 26 balls.

Charles is on fire getting another couple of boundaries off Kumar. WI 46-0, 4 overs.

Shami goes for 17 in the first over of the match as Charles slams a six and two boundaries. WI 17-0, 1 over.

MS Dhoni has won the toss and India will bowl first against West Indies in the first T20 international at at Lauderhill, Florida.

India are on a high after Kohli led his side to a 2-0 Test series win.

The bad news for cricket fans is that Chris Gayle is injured and won't be in the Windies starting line up which is led by Carlos Brathwaite for the first time.
