India's World Cup winning hero Yuvraj Singh has played his first practice match since making a return after being treated for a rare germ cell cancer, according to NDTV.com.

His tweet on Wednesday said: "Finally played my first practice game after 8 months! Got 47 of 70 balls bowled 5 overs fielded 30 overs! Not bad for a start !!"

Yuvraj, who was man of the tournament during India's triumphant World Cup campaign last year, is targeting the World Twenty20 event in September for his international comeback.

The all-rounder has come a long way since taking baby steps from June 27 though it has not been a rosy path.

In his second week of the rehabilitation programme at the National Cricket Academy, Bangalore, practice and training schedules were being worked out, diet plans were being designed and waiting media contingents were being dealt with, the report added.

"It's a big achievement for me hitting the nets. I felt happy, really good to be in the nets," he had said following his first hit at the nets after recuperating fully.

But the flamboyant batsman added that a few minutes of training had him tired. "It was not a bad session, for the first time after about six months. I got tired after about 15 minutes but I am sure every day will be a better day," he told reporters then.
