Brazilian club Sao Paulo have raised the price for teenage attacking midfielder Lucas Moura who is a target of Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson is desperate to land the 19-year old particularly after Chelsea agreed a Brazilian record £25 million deal to sign Internacional star Oscar.

Ferguson intensified the pursuit by sending chief scout Jim Lawlor and club secretary John Alexander to Brazil to work on the deal despite having an opening £20 million bid rejected over the weekend.

Sao Paulo now claim they had rejected a new £29.8 million bid from United, according to the Daily Mirror.

United had been confident of landing the deal but Sao Paulo president Juvenal Juvencio, has suddenly changed tack in what appears a clear move to ratchet up the fee.

The Brazilians now insist they rejected the latest bid, after turning down United’s opening offer of £25.9m, even though it met their previous asking price.

Sao Paulo are currently without a sponsor, and keeping hold of their star asset is seen as the only way of attracting outside investment.
