Al Ahli rode on a five-goal blitz from Portugal striker Madjer for a 7-3 demolition of Ajman Club in the final of the first UAE Beach Soccer League that concluded at the Al Mamzar Beach Park on Friday.

Madjer’s scoring abilities were the mainstay of the inaugural champions as he went about his task of finding the goal early to give Al Ahli a 2-0 in the first period itself.

He added a third in the second period of 12 minutes and then another two in the third and final period to ensure victory in the inaugural event organised by the Dubai Sports Council and the UAE Football Association.

Dr. Ahmed Al Sharif, Secretary General, Dubai Sports Council, presented the trophies to the winners in the presence of DSC officials Ali Omar and Badr Hareb after the final.

Al Ahli, who had battled for a penalty shoot-out win against Al Nasr in the semi-finals the previous day, were not to be denied the crown as Kambhar Mohammed Ali kept a firm grip on the defence even as Madjer went about his task of scoring goals in the front.

Stephan Maier, one of the four foreign professionals recruited by Al Ahli for the league, performed well in the middle by becoming provider to the lanky striker from Portugal. Another import Rui Coimbra, also from Portugal, filled in for Maier when needed and the result was an entertaining encounter for the big holiday crowd gathered to witness the final.

Earlier, in the play-off Al Nasr secured a consolation third place with an identical 7-3 win over Hatta Club.

“The inaugural edition of this league has been a huge success and we will continue with the coach (Marcelo Mendes) announcing a list of players who will be further trained as part of our development programme,” said Dr Ahmed Al Sharif.
