Dubai Pro-League club Al Wasl have confirmed that Argentine midfielder Mariano Donda will be Diego Maradona’s fourth overseas player.

“I don’t think it will be long before Donda is here. He is on the way. I think it’s just a matter of one week,” Humaid Yousuf, Al Wasl’s team manager told ‘Gulf News’.

Maradona has taken charge of Al Wasl’s campaign since arriving on Wednesday in Dubai with the World Cup winner intent on making his mark.

Donda, 29, is under contract for another year at Argentine club Godoy Cruz but is eager to sign for Maradona’s new club.

“We have a good set of foreign players. (Juan Manuel) Olivera comes with experience in Saudi (Arabia) and Edson Puch is coming in with goals directly. It will be nice once Donda gets here,” added Yousuf.

Olivera is from Uruguay while Puch is a Chilean international.

Maradona endeared himself to fans during an open training session on Saturday night but the former Argentina coach is aware of the massive task ahead of him.

“Diego has told everyone we must work to become champions in order to achieve something. He knows the competition will be difficult but with good players we’ll be champions for sure,” said Yousuf.
