Former Manchester United star Lee Sharpe feels Arsene Wenger is indispensable to Arsenal and predicted they would "come good" once again.

Wenger is certain to end a seventh season without a trophy with their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread after receiving a 4-0 mauling at Milan.

The Frenchman has tested the patience of fans without securing big name signings to offset the summer departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri last year.

Asked whether it was time for Arsenal to have a new manager with Barcelona's Pep Guardiola being heavily linked to the Emirates, Sharpe sprang to Wenger's defence.

"I don't think Arsenal would be able to bring in anyone better than Arsene Wenger. He has been a great manager for Arsenal. I don't think they would get anyone better,"
he said speaking on the sidelines of an event in Dubai on Tuesday.

Sharpe, a football analyst with Abu Dhabi Sports channel, was willing to put his money on Arsenal securing the fourth Champions League spot ahead of Chelsea.

"It looks interesting. Spurs will be comfortable (in third). Arsenal could end up at fourth place because there is little bit of unrest at Chelsea. I don't think some of the players are getting on with the manager (Andres Villas-Boas). He will be under a little bit of pressure from (Roman) Abramovich. I tip Arsenal for fourth place," said Sharpe.

The Gunners showed character to win their north London derby against Tottenham Hotspurs after being two goals to win 5-2 with a vintage performance to the delight of Emirates faithful.

"They are just going through bit of a lean spell at the moment.  It's a bit of a transition period. They'll come good again Arsenal," he predicted boldly giving Wenger a lifeline from an unusual quarter.
