Spurs are attempting to hijack Arsenal target Alan Dzagoev whom Arsene Wenger wanted as a replacement for another Russian Andrei Arshavin.

The CSKA Moscow attacking midfielder, was a revelation at the Euros, scoring three goals.

Arsenal have made their intentions clear by signing Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud but a move for Dzagoev will depend on how the Robin Van Persie saga unfolds.

Wenger will only settle for a bargain price of £13 million Spurs are rocking the boat by chasing the £15 million-rated Dzagoev, his agent has claimed, according to The Sun.

His father, Tariel Dzagoev, said: "I don't know if he will stay at CSKA. There are offers - from Spurs and other foreign clubs.

"But I tell him not to hurry. Yuri Zhirkov ran off to Chelsea and sat on the bench."

Dzagoev is eager for a move, though, and earlier admitted: “It is true that I am willing to try myself in other clubs, in another league, in Europe."

Once Andre Villas-Boas is confirmed as the new Tottenham boss, Arsenal could also lose their bid for Ajax star Jan Vertoghen.

AVB's appointment is expected to be announced on the club website Monday although will not be officially unveiled until after the club’s players return to pre-season training.

One of AVB’s first jobs will be attempting to talk Luka Modric out of quitting.

The Croatia playmaker is wanted by Manchester United and Real Madrid.

And if Spurs fail to convince him to stay, then cash from the sale will go straight to AVB giving him up to £80m to spend leaving poor Arsenal in the lurch.
