Capello joins Hodgson in Man Utd, Rooney blast

Managers in scathing criticism of Wayne’s game

Now ex-England manager Fabio Capello has lashed Wayne Rooney with an amazing claim: He only plays well for Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Capello said: “After seeing the latest game, I think Rooney only understands Scottish.

“That’s because he only plays well in Manchester, where Sir Alex Ferguson speaks Scottish.”

Meanwhile, England manager Roy Hodgson showed that he may be just the man for the national team.

Hodgson slammed Wayne Rooney for failing to live up to expectations.

While most pundits skirted the issue of blaming Rooney for England crashing out of the Euros on penalties to Italy, Hodgson yesterday said fitness was not an issue for Rooney. He just failed to live up to expectations.

Rooney now has a bit of history of letting England down, either with red cards or underperforming.

Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson has had his own run-ins with his star player.

Perhaps Fergie will have to sit down and rework his Rooney plan as well.

Rooney was returning from a two-match ban for his sending off against Montenegro in a qualifying game last October and scored the winner against Ukraine.

But when it mattered, Rooney was below par according to the England manager.

England were beaten 4-2 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes.

Hodgson said: “I think we put a lot of expectations on Wayne.

“When he missed the first two games, we were all believing that what we needed to do was to get to the third game and Wayne Rooney will win us the championships.

“That maybe was too much to ask of him. Wayne certainly tried very hard, but he didn't have his best game. I think he would admit that.”

following Capello's and Hodgson's blasts against our Rooney, let him just do some thing very simple and that is non other than retiring and we see how they are going to progress in world cup qualifiers for 2014 because in nature,as far as football is concerned, there is wining and loosing so why for God's sank blame on person.sir Alex must do some to the so called the capellos and Hodgsons and the two must apologize.

it just england manager doesn't know how to use rooney. Thats all. give rooney the same role as he at Manchester doesn't mean you use he the best. at there rooney got carrick, scholes, valencia, nani, young to help him. At england only gerard .

Oh come on. Its not Rooney. Look Utd, City, Chelsea or any English successful english team. They have foreigns as enforcing and creating midfielders. YOu clearly lack those.

if you put defensive players across the entire midfield how is any striker going to be able to make an impact. You can blame Rooney all you want but when you take Jordan Henderson as back up to Scott Parker how can you ever expect to challenge the best and create anything. We should have at least had Carrick in there as he can see a pass, set up an attack at the same time break up an opposition attack. Capello can shut it.

Rooney is all blood and guts... but he's not a world class player and never will be. Once he starts to slow down a bit with age, he will be even worse. The UK culture is fill the team with runners and fighters - but that doesn't work at world class level. The results speak for themselves.

With 15mins left England bring on Henderson who I bet the Italians never heard off , why didn't England not bring scholes , England needed the composure of scholes , scholes would have got the wingers alot more involved in the game ,

Germany, Spain and rest went to win the Euro but England went not to loose... All the four games was just defending except one where Theo came on and changed it into attack and we won. World cup next..ooh I'm put off by you Roy

I agree with jordan. I mean why not play welbeck and walcott. What's the point in bringing carrol. Rooney didn't know where to play after carrol entered the frame. You normally play to your strengths. How is lobbing the ball upfront english strength? Was that the gameplan?

England are an average team with an average manager, why anyone would expect them to do any better than they did is beyond me...
  • john 26 June 2012 21:32 1 2
maybe he should forget England and concentrate on United

Wake up,England are not as technicaly gifted as countless other countries. It has been obvious for years.English Bulldog Spirit does not work. The whole coaching system needs to change.Blame culture wont work either,'he was bad,he was bad, they were all bloody bad.Stop defending the bloody obvious,we are not good enough to win a major trophy !!!!

As a utd fan for many years can I give some facts on Rooney at Utd.Valencia was voted Utds best player last season,Rooney had two assists while he gave the ball away more than any other player. In the last WC Rooney got an average rating of just 4/10.As Fergie recently said England have only had 1 world class player since 1966 and that was Paul Gascoigne.

he is talking nonsense. i will also say he should have picked paul scholes. see how pirlo messed them up. his team pick let the country down.
  • nickh93 26 June 2012 16:51 6 6
Rooney is United's best player by a mile...If only they were to sell him...!!

i'm man utd fan, but i'm very frustrated with ashley young. when england counterattack, he stay in england's half and not support the attack. no contribution and missed penalty. weak mentality because he can't take pressure.

I think Hodgson is to blame.
  • Bred Red 26 June 2012 15:21 3 3
I agree with most comments made and that Hodgson was at fault. His 'game plan' was based on fear, negative tactics and ignorance. I believe Hodgson is not the quality manager needs and should be replaced by a wiser head, maybe a Harry Rednap?
