Napoli ace Edinson Cavani is back on the Chelsea radar with manager Roberto Di Matteo desperate to bring in another striker before the August 31 transfer deadline.

The Blues boss wants the Uruguay international and will make a £35 million swoop, according to The Sun.

But if the deal stalls Di Matteo could splash out £45m on his second choice - Porto’s Brazilian striker Hulk.

Cavani and Hulk have both been long-standing targets for Chelsea.

Liverpool and Manchester City have also shown interest in the player but Chelsea seem to be in pole position.

Chelsea will hold talks with both clubs next week when Chelsea’s top brass are in Monaco for the Champions League draw, the report added.

Di Matteo said: “I don’t know if there will be new arrivals. We’re probably a bit light in attacking positions.”

Chelsea can go top of the Premier League for the first time in almost two years Wednesday by beating newly promoted Reading at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues opened their campaign with a 2-0 win at Wigan thanks to an inspired performance by Belgium international Eden Hazard.

Chelsea will take on Atletico Madrid in the European Supercup in Monaco on Friday.
