Double blow for Arsenal as Chelsea target Walcott

Blues set to smash £100m barrier during summer recruitment drive

Arsenal could not only lose their talismanic skipper Robin van Persie but also England winger Theo Walcott, according to reports.

Manchester City are waiting patiently to snap up Van Persie who has kept the Gunners in suspense until the end of Euros before committing his future at Emirates.

European champions Chelsea also plan to make a raid at Arsenal this summer by preying on Walcott who is unhappy after contract talks have been delayed since last October.

Chelsea have already agreed to spend £80 million on Eden Hazard, Hulk and Marko Marin as they launch an extravagant summer recruitment drive.

The Blues are ready to break the £100m barrier before the start of next season as they now work on signing a winger, midfield destroyer and reliable right-back, according to a Mirror (http://bit.ly/LTV8CA) exclusive.

Walcott, Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote and Ajax star Gregory van der Wiel are all on Chelsea’s radar as owner Roman Abramovich and technical director Michael Emenalo look to reshape the squad, it added.

Midfielder Hazard last week announced he is set to sign for £32m and a £38m fee has been agreed for Porto’s Brazilian forward Hulk in a serious statement of intent. Marin had already been snapped up for £8m from Werder Bremen.

Abramovich is all out to beef up the squad despite even before the appointment of a permanent manager, in a bid to ensure they are genuine Premier League contenders next season.

They hope to recoup the money through bids for Florent Malouda, Michael Essien and Daniel Sturridge.

Walcot is not the right player for Chelsea.

Football is a joke, players are jokers, owners are clowns and fans weirdos...

Yes, let walcott go, I'm an Arsenal fan and I would be happy to let walcott go. Besides he's useless. Ox is younger and is just as fast, maybe a bit slower and is a better shooter crosser, and understands the game better. And we get to take in some money to spend.

Let those three go, they are wortless to us.

Chelsea should try and sign Tiote, Walcholtt because these boys are perfect.

Please don't sell Daniel. He is a great player and can still get better.

Walcott is a terrible, overrated player and is not needed. Chelsea would be wasting money if they bought him.

I think dembele is better than Tiote in mid-positon so we should try to sign M.dembele and his team mate karim frei.

Malouda, Essien Bosingwa,Fereira, Turnbull are the only problms we have now. So lets recruit likes of Modric, Tiote, Vanderwiel, Tim Krul and lets hope for a better season.

Mata, Hulk, Torres, Marin, Hazard, Ramires are enough to win more trophies. But who will be the fans favourite player?
  • Kingz 3 June 2012 21:59 1 0
It'll be the most ridiculous thing for CFC to sign Walcott. The guy plays like he's got no brain. Letting Sturridge go, big mistake.
  • Smartjaydanchelsea 3 June 2012 21:56 0 2
Malouda, Essien n selfish sturridge should go n buy walcot.

Chelsea would need hulks deal finalised....and hopes if talks for Walcott, Vanderweil to be finalised.
  • Chilekwa Moses 3 June 2012 21:45 1 1
In my opinion, I think Maouda, Essien, Sturigge should be shown the exit door and create space for fresh blood.
  • Kayode 3 June 2012 21:17 1 0
I think Chelsea should still keep sturidge bcs. I believe he can still do something good for us. He's still young to go.
  • Stu 3 June 2012 16:11 5 2
Letting Sturridge go I think will be a mistake... I know he can be a whinging little girl at times but he is a great player and will only get better in time.
  • Josephat 3 June 2012 15:25 2 2
Good. Walcot will assist Ramirez in counter attack so much coz of his speed.
  • Horlarh 3 June 2012 15:07 4 0
As for me, we dont need Walcot in our squad because he is not mature. The only thing he knows how to do is to run.
  • Vinnie Razy Mzito 3 June 2012 13:53 0 0
Wenger should style up... Arsenal need quality players just like the other teams are doing. Otherwise Arsenal will never rake a cup to Emirates.

Surprised there's no talk of a Drogba replacement... and speaking of a rightback why not optfor Dani? Come on Chelsea! Maybe grab everyone before cash player face transfers.
