Evra done, Man Utd sight Rio’s replacement

Italy international defender Angelo Ogbonna on Sir Alex Ferguson's radar... Everton also interested

Manchester United are preparing for the future.

Unlike Liverpool, that preparation has come in the form of young, talented strikers being broken in to the team with die-hard veterans – so the pressure is really on nobody.

After Alex Buttner and Nick Powel’s sensational debuts against Wigan yesterday – both scored and both showed plenty of poise – United can seriously look forward to replacing the likes of Paul Scholes and Patrice Evra.

Now, reports have emerged that the United scouts have Italy international defender Angelo Ogbonna in their sights.

With Johny Evans given a run out yesterday and the Rio Ferdinand-Nemanja Vidic centreback pairing still to reach peak form, the Torino centre-back could well be seen as a future option.

Chris Smalling is out injured and Sir Alex has suffered over these past two seasons due to injuries to his defensive players.

Phil Jones is also injured though it is not clear if United see him in a defensive or more advanced role.

Ogbonna can also play at left-back and was called up for the Italian national team.

According to a report in The Sun , Sir Alex and Everton’s David Moyes plan to watch Torino play Inter Milan Ogbonna is 6ft 2in and is rated at around £16million.

Given United’s susceptibility to set plays this season, Ogbonna’s towering ‘presence’ will be welcome at Old Trafford.

Given that Sir Alex has openly stated that Rio Ferdinand has aged and lost pace and needs to adapt his game, a January move for Ogbonna could well see Ferdinand getting some bench time.

Well done sir Alex for a wonderful team selection. Butner is right replacement 4 Evra. However, sir, think about strengthening the back line.

WELBECK & CARRICK are clogs in the wind of change in MAN U; they don't fit in, get rid of them Fergie.

Wel done young talented boys of United. We need to improve on our football pattern, though we score against Wigan should nt b an evidence to relent. Again, keepin De Gea in bench is nt helping matters.

Perfect combinatiôn of techniques wel don Fergie. But nani should improve. I don't knw what our Coach sees in Welbeck, that he puts him in all games.Welbeck should stop playing for a while for Henrique to play his position.

One thing that I like most about Sir Alex... he buys wisely when it comes to up and coming young players, look at Powell, Bettner and Kagawa. Those are quality players.

Burtner was very impressive and I feei he should be picked over Evra. It has shown that you don't have to pay over the Moon to get the best players as some of our brothers are doing with Oil Money. Let's also try Henrique and these extra rich will look at us with envy. Money does not buy everything.

....Ogbonna is also wanted by Juve and a number of other Italian teams!
  • Kivatse jackson 16 September 2012 09:09 2 0
I was very much delighted yesterday with how the boys played.it will b very important to bring an asset like Ogbonna as a backup as we did for the left back Buttner n which paid off.
