It is still not clear why Fernando Torres escaped the chop at Chelsea.

The rumours are that it was a decision from ‘high up’.

Well, Didier Drogba won Chelsea the Champions League and is now gone.

Chelsea have still not found a Drogba replacement and manager Roberto Di Matteo’s early plans to carve out an attack formation based around a newly-inspired Torres seems to have hit the walls.

This is why Radamel Falcao scoring again for Atletico Madrid over in Spain might signal the end of Torres.

Falcao has now scored seven goals in four games and has been reported a top Chelsea target come January.

The Colombian is being closely watched by all across the world and no less than former England and current Russia national coach Fabio Capello singled Falcao out for praise.

Chelsea seem to thrive on a striker with a Drogba-like presence and Falcao promises to provide that.
Evidence from his reaction to being substituted after 81 minutes against Queens Park Rangers suggests not.

Torres walked straight past Di Matteo and directly down the tunnel.

Torres seemed unable to cope with the physical power of veteran defender, QPR’s Ryan Nelsen.

Di Matteo’s post-match evasiveness suggests all is not well at camp Stamford Bridge.

“It’s a team sport,” said the Chelsea boss. “I wouldn’t individually go player by player.

“We can’t put too much pressure on one player. We are a team and everybody has responsibility. We’re looking for others to score as well.

“Players in general are not happy to come off and that shows a bit of frustration. But it’s no problem for us.”

Juan Mata, and Eden Hazard in midfield would probably delight in the arrival of Falcao.

Victor Moses and Daniel Sturridge are no mugs either.

Can you hear the drums Fernando?
