No Nemanja Vidic, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

Jonny Evans is only just returning to full fitness.

An ageing Rio Ferdinand is recognised as a centre-back, yes, but left for dead by Gareth Bale and Tottenham Hotspur, hardly inspires the awe he once did.

Yet, rather than go the Liverpool route and risk his youngsters, Sir Alex Ferguson seems to insist on using ageing stars to help steady the Old Trafford ship – clearly rocking right now.

Speculation is rising that former United defernder Mikael Silvestre may be ready for a recall after reports he was spotted training with the club. That is another 30-plus player being turned to then.

Patrice Evra continues to start despite fading form and Alex Buttner ready in the wings.

Rafael will soon need a rest.

Manchester United need to blood their youngsters now. Scott Wootton and Michael Keane both seem ready, willing and able to defend.

Silvestre spent nine years at Old Trafford before moving to Arsenal in 2008.

Silvestre is currently without a club after being released by Werder Bremen at the end of the season.
