Fernandes has 'complete faith' in QPR boss Hughes

Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes re-iterated his support for under-fire manager Mark Hughes on Monday despite the Hoops still searching for their first Premier League win of the season.

Hughes's men were jeered off the pitch by their own fans following Sunday's 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Reading at Loftus Road.

A share of the spoils against the Royals, also seeking their first league win of the campaign, left QPR second bottom in the table with just four points from 10 matches.

However, Malaysian businessman Fernandes was adamant former Wales striker and manager Hughes was the right man to guide QPR to top-flight safety.

"I have complete faith in Mark Hughes and we have a great squad, we just need to hold out for that stability and I'm sure things are going to go right," Fernandes told Sky Sports on Monday.

"It's been one of those frustrating seasons for us but I'm keeping the faith and keeping calm. It's not a time to panic."

Fernandes has repeatedly voiced his support for Hughes in recent weeks, having brought the Welshman into Loftus Road after sacking former QPR manager Neil Warnock in January.

The chairman told his Twitter followers that sacking Hughes now would be "suicidal".

"I'm not sure what language I have to say it in, I don't how else I can do it but I am 100 percent committed," Fernandes said on Monday.

"We won't be detracted by fans or media, we're confident in our approach and changing our manager now would be suicidal.

"Mark's a good guy, he's got good records before him, he needs a bit of luck but cream always rises to the top. He has our backing."

Fernandes added: "We made a change with Neil and it's not in my nature to do that but we felt that we had to make that change going forward.

"I think the fans who are true fans know that stability is needed. QPR doesn't need another four-year plan of chopping and changing every few weeks.

"Mark has done it before, he's brought teams up from the bottom to the mid-table, we just need a bit of luck and I'm sure things will turn around."

Fernandes, who made his name with budget airline carrier AirAsia, has invested heavily in providing Hughes with funds to sign new players.

And he insisted QPR were in a similar position to many of the once struggling business concerns he'd revived during his career.

"My whole life has been about stability and building on things and I'm sure it's going to turn round.

"There's not been a single team that's really outplayed us and that's what's the frustrating thing.

"Even down to Arsenal, after 86 minutes we were well in the game and we walked away from that game feeling we could have won it.

"The league table doesn't lie and we've got to improve but I'm confident that we will."
