Ruud Gullit has urged his former club Chelsea to dump £50 million flop Fernando Torres and sign Atletico Madrid sensation Radamel Falcao, according to reports in the British press.

"If he can't still do it at Chelsea, then they are going to have to look somewhere else. I think Falcao is a very good striker," said the former Chelsea star.

The Dutchman added: "I said at the beginning of the season that Chelsea might need another striker but obviously they wanted to give Torres a chance. If he has taken it, I don't know."

Torres, the most expensive player in British transfer record history, has scored just 19 times since his move from Liverpool in 2011.

“What he had done in the past at Liverpool and at Atletico was unbelievable. And he can’t do it for some reason. I don’t know why, I have no clue. It’s a mystery,” said the former Chelsea boss.

Emirates 24|7 has also been flooded with letters from desperate Chelsea fans pleading with owner Roman Abramovich and manager Roberto Di Matteo to ditch the misfiring Spaniard and bring in either Didier Drogba, Falcao or Neymar.

Torres came close against his former club Liverpool on Sunday but as destiny would have it, he was denied by the Reds at Stamford Bridge before being replaced by Daniel Sturridge eight minutes from the end.
