Raheem Sterling has given Liverpool a major boost by committing his future at Anfield, according to reports in the British press.

The Sun reported that the new England wonderkid is expected to sign a five-year contract worth almost £40,000 a week - around £10 million.

Sterling had 18 months to run on his deal and could have left for £1m, the report added.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers considers him to be one of the key players in his campaign.

Jamaican-born Sterling had been in negotiations for weeks and Liverpool stepped up talks after he turned 18 earlier this month.

It has been a breakthrough season for Sterling who joined from QPR in February 2010.

He attracted the attention of England manager Roy Hodgson who called him for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine but won his first cap last month in England's 4-2 friendly defeat against Sweden.

He became the third youngest Liverpool player to score in the top flight when he netted against Reading.
