Liverpool pick new partner for Gerrard

Sochaux midfielder Ryad Boudebouz claims Liverpool are in talks to sign him this summer, according to the Mirror.

The highly-rated Algerian international already has a number of Ligue 1 clubs chasing him, including Lyon, Lille and Marseille.

But now the 22-year-old says Liverpool are also in the running to snap him up from current club Sochaux, the report added.

The Reds are without a manager or a director of football after sacking both Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli, but according to Boudebouz that has not put them off pursuing him.

An attacking midfielder, Boudebouz can play on either flank or through the middle to partner skipper Steven Gerrard.

After Algeria's 3-0 victory over Niger in a friendly on Saturday he told reporters: “Certainly, my agent is in talks with some clubs, particularly in France, but there is still nothing concrete.

"There is also Liverpool, who have initiated discussions with my agent, but at the risk of repeating myself, everything is in the discussion stage, no more.”

Boudebouz has already made 130 Ligue 1 appearances for the club.
