Liverpool are in danger of becoming a club which sells it top players but make no investments in big names like Arsenal.

The Reds are languishing in 13th with just two wins although drawing their last six games in the league, including against Chelsea.

But ever since Fernando Torres was sold for £50 million, they have failed to make much headway with only a League Cup to show last season which was not enough to keep Kop icon Kenny Dalglish in his job.

Brendan Rodgers has vowed to bring a Barca style 'tiki-taka' revolution but after a string of poor results has declared that he would be content with a seventh place finish, one better than last season.

But having sent their most expensive signing £35 million signing Andy Carroll to West Ham on loan on the final day of the summer transfer without buying a replacement, he has managed to stay afloat thanks to the individual brilliance of Luis Suarez.

The 25 year-old Uruguayan striker has virtually carried Liverpool this season, scoring 11 goals, with new signing Fabio Borini being sidelined by injury.

Liverpool are set to lose their lone ranger as Manchester City are willing to test their resolve by making sensational bid for Suarez, according to reports in the British press.

City boss Roberto Mancini has grown weary of errant forward Mario Balotelli and wants to offload the Italian to make room for the hottest striker in the Barclays Premier League.

They will make an initial £40 million bid in January but the former Ajax striker is rated at £50 million.

Mancini is tired of Balotelli, who was booked during Italy's international friendly against France.

Suarez signed a new contract at the Kop which runs until 2017 and continued his red-hot form by scoring in the second half to seal a 3-1 win for Uruguay over Poland in a friendly in Gdansk on Wednesday.

Mancini wants to re-jig his attack and is also looking at Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao.

Arsenal have also yet to make a big-name signing after selling Robin van Persie to Manchester United.
