Paris St Germain are in pole position to beat Manchester United for the signing of wantaway Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole who has refused to sign a new one-year deal, according to reports in the British press.

PSG can start talks in January whereas United would have to wait until May to have face-to-face talks under Premier League rules.

Cole's former manager at Chelsea, Carlo Ancelotti, is keen for him to join PSG next season but United, who take on Chelsea in Sunday's top-of-the-table clash, are also looking at Cole as an option.

With former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba also poised for a loan move to Liverpool, United have been reportedly caught napping also missing out on PSV Eindhoven star Kevin Strootman.

United will be kicking themselves for turning down the chance to sign midfielder Strootman for less than £10 million in 2011, when he was at Utrecht.

Strootman has been on United’s radar for over a year and is understood to be keen on the prospect of a move to Old Trafford.

United will be told it will cost them £25m to sign the midfielder, according to the Mirror (https://bit.ly/SpkpLs).

It is understood United are hoping to sign him for around £15m.

Strootman only signed a five-year contract to join PSV last year.
