Whatever the crosses in to the box say about David De Gea, one thing is for certain, he is Manchester United’s Champions League player of the moment for now.

Against Galatasaray and against Cluj, De Gea saved Manchester United two points with two world-class stops.

While the Premier League may be a different kettle of fish, in that, teams are more likely to use the long ball in to the United six-yard box as a strategy for the entire game, in Europe, teams seem to take a traditional approach – cross when you must, shoot when you can.

Cluj could have snatched a point at the death but De Gea saved Rafael Bastos’s point-blank header, turning it round the post.

In the nervy home display against the Turkish club Galatasaray, De Gea pulled off an excellent double save to first deny Burak and then Emre Colak.

Had it not been for De Gea, United may well have been staring down the barrel in the Champions League again.

Sir Alex Ferguson is clear that he will rotate Anders Lindegaard and De Gea until he is convinced that ine of them is ready to take the job of permanent first team keeper.

Lindegaard has the physical presence to deal with corners and crosses. De Gea is the shot-stopper.

For now, both stay alive with first team action as United stay alive in the Premier and the Champions League. Just about.
