Man Utd transfer latest: Barcelona's new 'Xavi' in the mix as Vidal stirs pot again

It’s on again, off again, but as the dust settles one thing seems clear, Arturo Vidal knows something about Manchester United.

As new manager Louis Van Gaal flew with the team to kick off their US tour, he remained non-committal on new signings at his first official press conference.

Chilean and Juventus midfield enforcer Vidal, however, has stirred the pot again.

According to reports in the UK media, Vidal said: "I’ve heard of interest from Real, from United, but that’s for someone else to worry about.

Perhaps I will stay the rest of my life at Juventus. When I arrive in Italy, I’ll talk with the coach and we’ll see what happens. Right now the only thing I know is that I have seven or eight days of holiday left."

The other big rumour doing the press in the UK is about a Barcelona player they are calling the next Xavi – as any midfielder coming off the La Maisa conveyor belt is likely to be called.

Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto is the latest name linked to Old Trafford and the 22-year-old has made just one start in La Liga last season.

His desire to see him play more first-team football is being touted as the hook for United.

However, with Ander Herrera – a silky smooth play-maker already in the side, Vidal might be more the steel in midfield Van Gaal needs (even if he is not looking for it).

With Michael Carrick already injured though, Van Gaal might need all the bench strength he can afford.
