Well, technically Mathieu Debuchy has got Newcastle.

On his mind for sure. One of the stars of the recently-concluded  Euros, the France right-back is a £7 million target for Magpies boss Alan Pardew.

More importantly, Newcastle is a target for Lille star Debuchy. The British press quoted him as saying that despite interest from Italian club Inter Milan, Debuchy wants to be a Toon.

He said: "My priority is to join Newcastle, although Inter also enquired about me.

“I am committed 100 per cent to the fact I want to leave Lille, I want to discover another championship.

Debuchy’s coming will set up an already strong Newcastle team to make a genuine top four attempt.

The very idea of Andy Carroll returning to Newcastle would free Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse to sit in behind them and then, Hatem ben Arfa,  Yohan Cabaye and Cheik Tiote to run the midfield.

Vurnon Anita from Ajax will certainly help.

Debuchy at the back will add more fire-power to the wings, freeing players to attack from the centre and be ready and waiting for the crosses.

Pardew says he is not worried about losing a player or two.

Perhaps that’s because he has so many coming in.
