No transfers to Rodgers’ Europe dream for Liverpool
Why new manager has not been able to settle the nerves at Anfield
Liverpool football club and Brendan Rodgers are turning out to be as much of an enigma as any of the previous managers to run the gauntlet at Anfield.
Ever since Rafa Benitez set the bar too high for himself with the Champions League triumph, the managers that have followed – Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish – have been greeted with bemused reactions by the Kop.
Why Roy failed at Liverpool, when his England national team seems more Red in nature than any other club representation is still a mystery.
It is still a mystery whether Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson can be Liverpool greats.
Kenny Dalglish’s mystery is tied-up high on the head of Andy Carroll. When will that price tag be justified?
Which leaves us now with Rodgers, who seems to be chasing shadows.
If there has there been a conversation between Fenway, the owners, and the new manager, one hopes the words ‘Premier League Champions’ figured somewhere.
Given the larger perspective of Chelsea and Manchester City’s spending, the response Manchester United is planning and the do-or-die situation at Arsenal, one can only look at Rodgers’ transfer moves and wonder?
Is he building a team to win the league?
News this morning revolved around Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea. The Gylfi Sigurdsson snub seems to have unsettled the former Swansea manager.
Joe Cole has to be dealt with as does Alberto Aquilani.
Martin Skrtel has to be defended, and even AC Milan seem to be keen to rescue Liverpool from Andy Carroll.
Is Luis Suarez staying or going?
Rodgers was quoted as telling Sky Sports: "You can only sell the dream going forward. There's a lot of nostalgia surrounding this club, but it's important that we recognise this is 2012 and we're not in the Champions League.
"The top players want to play at that level. Steven Gerrard wants to play at that level, Jamie Carragher, they're players who have won it.”
"In the coming years we'll strive towards that. If that's not enough for a player, then they will go, simple as that."
We know who is going Rodgers. What we want to know is who is staying and more importantly, who is coming to make your Champions League dream a reality.
Four flops and a miss?
