Rodgers' Italian job: Another Liverpool nightmare

It is déjà vu at Anfield.

The names have changed, but the players are the same.

The game has changed but the results are the same… or worse.

Remember Alberto Aquilani? Or is it Fabio Borini?

Same difference.

How long will it take Borini to get up to speed with the Premier League?

At the rate Liverpool are currently going, about the same time they are able to climb to mid-table – by December.

It will be too late for any serious top four, or title talk then.

In a move that will baffle and mystify the Kop until Liverpool start winning, and then even after that, Andy Carroll was let go while Borini, brought in to herald the new era of tiki-taka at Liverpool, has struggled.

And that is putting it mildly.

Substituted yesterday, Jonjo Shelvey and Stewart Downing came on, and both looked far more dangerous than Borini.

Alberto Aquilani was signed by Rafa Benitez but then, did not play a competitive game for the club after Benitez's departure in the summer of 2010.

Under Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish he was sent on season-long loans to Juventus and AC Milan.

Rodgers ended Aquilani’s Liverpool spell with a sale to Fiorentina.

Aquilani was brought in as the great playmaking option for Steven Gerrard.

If Borini was bought in for Andy Carroll, he needs about the same time Carroll was given to settle down – none.
