Rodgers to buy Gylfi, Bedimo for Liverpool reign

Brendan Rodgers has begun his Liverpool reign by looking to sure up the midfield and back line.

Perhaps drawing a page from the manual of Manchester City’s Roberto Mancini, Rodgers seems to be keen to build from behind.

According to reports in the British press today, Gylfi Sigurdsson is close to joining Liverpool for £8million from Hoffenheim.

Sigurdsson was to join Swansea, but when Brendan Rodgers joined the Reds from there, Sigurdsson seems set to move as well..

Montpellier left-back Henri Bedimo is said to be next on Rodgers shopping list.

The £5million-rated Cameroon star, 29, was quoted as saying: “I’m going to play in England next season. I’ll announce where next week.”

With Andy Carroll looking on fire at the Euros, having scored the opening goal against the Swedes, perhaps Rodgers forward worries are not that big.

Most interesting of all is the lifeline Rodgers has thrown Joe Cole.

The 30-year-old could be back in a Liverpool shirt next term having spent last season out on loan at Lille.

Rodgers said: “I met up with Joe Cole when I was in Spain.

“I certainly know he’s looking to come back. I’ve got to assess all the players.

“For me it’s fresh for everyone — I’ll be new into the club.”
