Manchester United have no choice but to compensate for their defensive frailties by going all out in attack.

Wayne Rooney, with his display against Newcastle in the Capital One Cup has more or less solved Sir Alex Ferguson’s problem of how to get his midfield going.

With Robin Van Persie upfront, Shinji Kagawa can sit just behind and it could very well be Rooney in the heart of midfield to pull the strings after his creative display against Newcastle, which United on 2-1.

Anderson is likely to be back as well, after he showed against Newcastle as well, that on his day, he is a master of the attacking midfield game.

Anderson hustles, runs at defenders, gets by them and scores.

Which will leave Michael Carrick in the holding role.

For a change United will be without any out and out wingers, but that is where Raphael and Alex Buttner will come in.

Both have shown plenty of attacking intent and are more than capable of getting down the flanks and scoring as well.

A 4-3-2-1 formation gives Sir Alex the choice of starting Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes as well, or then going all out and dropping Javier hernandez in the second attacker’s role.

One thing is for sure the game is going to be an all-out attacking feast.

Andre Villas-Boas has said he will encourage his team to attack Manchester United.

“We obviously know that it is extremely difficult there, but that doesn't mean that you might not be given a chance when you play that (attacking) way.

:It would make us very proud to go there and get a win that would shorten the distance to the top,' Villas-Boas said.

“That would hopefully help us profit in some way from the clash between Arsenal and Chelsea.

“We can't run away from our responsibilities. The statistics are there.

“We hope to break them one day and hopefully it will be on Saturday.”
