Russia rode on a hat-trick from Dmitriy Shishin to beat Brazil 5-4 in a thrilling Fifa Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup final at The Walk in Jumeirah on Saturday night.

It is the fifth big win by the Russian beach footballers, who are two-time winners of the Euroleague and grabbed the 2010 European Cup and this year’s World Cup.

Switzerland defeated hosts UAE in a penalty shootout 5-4 to win the third place.

During regulation time, Ali Hassan Karim scored three to bring UAE back into the game but had the mortification of seeing his shot blocked by Valentin at the crucial juncture. Rami Al Mesabi scored the fourth to put UAE level and carry the match into extra time.

Dejan Stankovic (2), Domnik Ziegler and Philip Borer were the scorers for Switzerland.

The championship was held with the support of His Highness UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and UAE Vice-President and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the patronage of the Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Maktoum.

Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum presented the winner’s trophy and medals at the end of the final in the presence of Dr Ahmad Sa’ad Al Sharif, Secretary-General of Dubai Sports Council.
