Street Child Football World Cup: Pakistan trounce India

Pakistan children have done their country proud after making it big in Rio de Janeiro in the Street Child Football World Cup on Sunday.

They won the bronze medal after defeating United States in the third place playoff winning after a penalty shootout 3-2, The Nation reported.

Pakistan trounced defending champions India 13-0 in the opener, Kenya 2-0 and Philippines before losing to Burundi in the semifinals.

The green shirts played well against the US and beat them on penalty kicks in a closely contested match.

Pakistani boys were leading 2-1 at the end of the first half but the US team levelled the score 2-2 in the second half.

Extra-time was awarded but both sides were unable to score, forcing the game into penalties.

Pakistan won the match on penalty-kicks, which goal-keeper and captain Sameer Ahmed being outstanding.

The teenager blocked at least two attempts by the US strikers in full-time, while he stopped one penalty-kick during the shoot-out.

Tanzania emerged champions in the Boys final defeating Burundi 3-1 while Brazil edged out Philippines 1-0 in the Girls final.
