Suarez staying at Liverpool 'bad news'

Kenny Dalglish believes Luis Suarez's decision to extend his Liverpool contract is bad news for the rest of the teams in the Premier League.

Reds manager Dalglish could not hide his delight over news the controversial striker wants to extend his Anfield tenure.

But he reckons it must be unsettling for teams who had wished to see the back of the quicksilver forward.

The Uruguay international was rapped by the Kop management following his refusal to shake hands with Manchester United's Patrice Evra following his return from an eight-match ban for racially abusing the defender.

In fact many in the club wondered whether he would stay at the club at all.

Even United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was outspoken in his criticism of Suarez after the racist slur urging Liverpool not to entertain a player of his nature.

But Suarez has surprised everyone by revealing he wants to renew a contract that already runs to 2016.

And Dalglish believes that is a development the rest of the league were dreading.

"It's certainly encouraging for us - although it might be bad news for the other Premier League teams," the Reds boss insisted.

"Luis has always said he is happy here, so it's great for everyone who supports Liverpool.

"I don't think he has been anything other than a threat to the opposition, so we are delighted with the wee man's comments and we have been delighted with him since he has been here.

"He scores goals, creates goals, and it's great news that he is happy.

"Luis has made a contribution every time he has stepped out on to the football pitch."

Suarez scored against Stoke in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday to help Liverpool on their way to a second Wembley appearance this season.

And he is adamant reaching the semis is further proof the Reds are re-emerging as a credible force under Dalglish.

"To get to two finals in one season would be great for the club - a real positive. It would show the team is getting used to the manager's system and style of play, as well as how the new arrivals have settled in," Suarez said.

"To be with a club for just a season-and-a-half and win two medals would be great. It's just a case of trying to keep calm and collected, and waiting for the game to come around."
