New Swansea boss Michael Laudrup is lining up a £1.7 million bid for Rayo Vallecano’s Michu.

He will face stiff competition from Premier League big guns Liverpool and Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.

The midfielder was scouted by Premier League scouts this season after scoring 15 goals but Vallecano are struggling financially and need to sell.

In March Sir Alex Ferguson sent his brother, Martin, to run the rule over the 26-year-old, the report added.

Oviedo-born Michu, full name Miguel Perez Cuesta, was also watched directly by Ferguson.

Sevilla also made an offer and may loan him back.

With Swansea and United ahead in the queue to land Michu, it will be another setback for Kop boss Brendan Rodgers who lost out on Iceland star Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Sigurdsson revealed he spurned Liverpool's advances because he believes Tottenham are a club that is going places after a meeting with the Spurs' hierarchy.

"I enjoyed playing under Brendan and I am grateful for everything he has done for me, but after careful consideration I liked Spurs best," Sigurdsson told Icelandic website mbl.is.
