The United Arab Emirates defeated Bahrain 3-1 on Monday to qualify for the semifinals of the Gulf Cup in first place in Group B ahead of Iraq.

Iraq will face Kuwait in Thursday’s first semifinal after finishing its group campaign with a 0-0 draw against Oman. The Emirates play Saudi Arabia later the same day.

Subait Khater put the Emirates in front after three minutes from a free kick, and Fares Juma made it 2-0 after eight minutes.

Bahrain had hope when Abdullah Fayfi scored his team’s only goal in the 38th, but Emirates striker Ahmed Jumaa wrapped up the win for his side in the 64th.

The eight-nation Gulf Cup 2010 opened last week amid heavy security.
