One is not sure if Arsene Wenger lives in denial.

Financial prudence and stout business of football principles leave Le Professor as a man among men.

However, the inability to win trophies and man management makes you wonder… has Wenger lost the plot?

In the Premier League, evolution happens every two seasons ever since Roman Ambramovich heated up the environment to melting point.

United evolved quickly and then, coped.

The change in permafrost at the top of the league gave rise to a new being in Manchester City (or maybe it was the other way around).

Evolution is now on the charge and Newcastle are quickly climbing the food chain (Demba Ba says he will stay despite fancy offers).

Yet, at the Emirates, Arsenal are held to ransom, either by player or by coach, thanks to a footballing philosophy that borders on the quaint and reduces any expectation of a trophy to, at best, a hope.

In comments published in The Sun (https://bit.ly/OjnoQco) on Sunday, Wenger insists he will never change the way he operates at Arsenal - even if his star players keep leaving.

Wenger channelled Dutch legend and Barcelona mentor Johann Cruyff, saying: “Money was never a motivation for me.

“And, in a similar way, people like Cruyff don’t put all their energy in building football teams with young players just for the money.

Wenger added: “The emotion is over-ruling analysis now. Every word is being enlarged to ridiculous height.

“Millions of people have an opinion now on it all.”

Wenger should know that perhaps at a football club, sometimes, more emotion than rationale is needed.

Something Nasri, Fabregas, Clichy and now Van Persie maybe all felt was lacking.

As for the Gunners fans? You’re not the victim. Wenger is.

“You want to see a player in his prime doing it for your club. But it does not work like that all the time.

“I am a victim of that. I lost Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Cesc Fabregas at an age where they should have been playing their best football for Arsenal. But I never left the club when I could have,” he says to The Sun (https://bit.ly/OjnoQco).

He stays. No money will be splashed on big name players. No trophies will be won. Game over.
