Jonny Evans has more than grown into his role at the heart of Manchester United’s defence, alongside Rio Ferdinand.

While he started out the season as an Achilles’s Heel in a United defensive unit that had already lost the services of Nemanja Vidic, Sir Alex Fergusson’s faith in Evans seems to have paid off.

Evans getting sent off against Manchester City at old Trafford and the ensuing 6-1 hammering the Red Devils suffered now seems like a distant memory.

However, ahead of the clash with Blackburn Rovers tomorrow, another team that has won at Old Trafford this season, Evans took questions from readers of club magazine United Review and revealed which strikers he believes are the most powerful.

“In terms of all-round power, I'd have to say Wayne Rooney. I obviously don't play against him in games, but I have him in training every day!

“Didier Drogba stands out, and then you have the likes of Sergio Aguero and Robin van Persie who've been excellent this season and scored a lot of goals.”

On a question on the impact Sir Alex had on him as a footballer and a person, Evans says, “The thing that really stands out is how he turns all the kids that come through the Academy into men.

“He encourages you, but will also have a quiet word when he feels he needs to. He just knows the right things to say at the right time.”

And Rio Ferdinand’s impact?

“I think it's the calmness he brings to the team... he never gets flustered.

“As a centre-back, if you're running around the pitch panicking, it sends a bad message to the team, so that composure is vital, and it's something I've tried to apply to my game.”
