Mercedes-Benz underlined its drive to making golf a truly global sport when they signed up with ‘golf in Dubai’ as the Official Car sponsor of the forthcoming Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.

Under terms of the four-year agreement with ‘golf in Dubai’, the promoters and organisers of the region’s premier tournaments, Mercedes-Benz will chauffer the world’s leading players to and from the venue – the Emirates Golf Club – in gleaming models, besides making a significant on-site presence.

With former world no.1 Tiger Woods and American sensation Michelle Wie headlining the respective fields, the tournaments have already started making waves in the international circuit, promising to give golf tourism to Dubai a big boost.

The Omega Dubai Ladies Masters - the season-ending event on the Ladies European Tour - gets under way from December 6 to 11, while the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, which will see Tiger Woods chase a record-equalling third win in his sixth visit to the longest-running European Tour tournament in the region, will be played from February 7 to 13.

Mercedes-Benz, the oldest automotive brand in the world, is no stranger to golf, having been the Official Automobile Partner of The Masters in Augusta as well as the Official Patron of the PGA of America which includes the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup 2012.

Commenting on the association, Frank Bernthaler, Director, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars Middle East & Levant, said: “The partnership with ‘golf in Dubai’ aligns with our strategy to place Mercedes-Benz at the forefront of marquee events.”

Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice-chairman and CEO of ‘golf in Dubai,’ echoing similar sentiments, said: “We are delighted to establish this new partnership. Mercedes-Benz has a wonderful reputation for building outstanding motor vehicles and its brand is a perfect fit with the profiles of our tournaments.”
