PREVIEW

It’s that time of the year when cricketing action shifts to India as the Indian Premier League 2016 kicks off on Saturday.

This time though the fever came in a little early with India hosting the Twenty20 World Cup promising the fans an extended entertainment.

Defending champions Mumbai Indians take on the new outfit Rising Pune Supergiants in the opener at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rising Pune Supergiants will be led by Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni who will play for first time outside Chennai Super Kings, a team which along with Rajasthan Royals was suspended for two years.

Another issue threatened to stop the opening tie when there were calls to stay it since many parts of Maharashtra was facing severe water crisis.

But the court declined to grant a stay and the match will go ahead.

The Supergiants, owned by RPSG Group, will be the team to watch out but with Mumbai Indians playing in their own backyard it’s not going to be an easy affair.

Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma had a disastrous start last year losing four of their opening matches but fought back well to take the title.
